Devora Goldman, a longtime fixture in the Crown Heights community who passed away on Monday, 17 Adar I 5784, still does not have a Matzeiva gravestone at her burial site.
Devora was mezake many with the mitzvah of tzedaka. For many years, she was stationed outside of the Jewish Children’s Museum on the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue.
She also collected charity in different Jewish communities around the Tri-State area. Devora enthusiastically bentched each person who donated. She passed away at 69.
Levi Piekarski from Crown Heights, an activist who raises funds to restore old Kvorim and gravestones near the Ohel, says he was recently informed that Devora Goldman’s grave does not have a stone, nearly 2 years after her passing.
“Normally, I don’t get involved with this,” Piekarski said. “But someone approached me, and I couldn’t say no. So I’m reaching out to you if you want to be part of this big Mitzvah of Chesed Shel Emes. Any extra money would go to fix other kvorim as well,” he said.
“When you donate to such a cause, you can ask Hashem for the brochos you need, because this is one of the biggest – if not the biggest Mitzvah – a person can contribute to.”
The total cost is $3,150.
