A public Menorah lighting on the third night of Chanuka in Jerusalem’s Mamilla neighborhood, orchestrated by Shluchim Eli and Chana Canterman of Chabad of Talbiya, was a highly emotional event.
The Menorah lighting on the upscale Mamilla Avenue was dedicated to families of victims of terror, and was attended by a large crowd.
6-year-old Moishy Holtzberg, son of slain Mumbai Shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg HYD, travelled from Afula to Jerusalem with his grandfather Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg for the ceremony.
Moshe and his grandfather lit the Menorah together with Mr. Rami Levi, a generous entrepeneur who donates to countless organizations to relieve pain and poverty in Israel, who also distributed candies and treats to the children in attendance.
Mr. Marc and Chantal Belzberg, Founders and Directors of the “One Family” Fund, who work tirelessly to provide services of every kind to families of victims of terror, were also present.
The Belzbergs invited families who were helped by their organizaton to attend the lighting, and organized the “Bereaved Fathers Choir,” each of whom has lost a child due to terror.
The already charged atmosphere reached its peak when the choir began singing “Ma ashiv lach, vehakol shelach” and “lo nafsik lashir.” ([Even in the face of pain] We will not stop our singing). The crowd stood rooted, in tears yet inspired by the strength of these men in the face of challenges.
The Shluchim of Talbiya dedicated the candles that night to R’ Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, and the kedosha Mira Rut Scharf HYD, also killed in a recent terror attack.
Rabbi Rosenberg inspired the spell-bound crowd with his words of emunah and encouragement that “no matter what suffering the Jewish people endures…we continue on, “Lo nafsik Lashir,” until Moshiach’s speedy arrival.
Give ’em a picture!
looking great !!
Be not afraid, Hashem is with you. What a nice big boy you are growing into. It was a beautiful honor for you to lite the Menorah. Celebrate! and remember the miracle of Chanukah with your grandparents and may Hashems miracle glow within you. You are loved and remembered by all.
The crowd was treated to a moving and heartfelt rendition of Haneiros Hallalu by Yehudah Friedman.
He deserved a picture or at least a mention
i was there and it was a beautiful event.
I just wish Moshe Holtzbergs parents would be alive.
Moshe didn’t seem so happy in the pictures. He looked kind of sad.I feel so bad for him. He was only two when his parents were killed.
