This past week, the students at HaMestiva of Lubavitch Yeshiva on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn had an opportunity to learn hands on about a most important concept. What better way to learn about the Beis Hamikdosh than to see a replica of the Beis Hamikdash? These students not only experienced seeing the replica, but actually built the Beis Hamikdosh themselves.
Shimon Frankel of The Mikdash Educational Center arrived in HaMesivta with supplies and materials, but more importantly, with insights, explanations, and answers to important details about the Beis Hamikdosh. The HaMesivta students were joined by Ivdu, a school for children with special needs, who frequently have programming and events with the HaMesivta Bochurim.
Shimon began by illustrating how long the Beis Hamikdosh was standing for, over 1,300 years. The United States has been around for some 250 years, he explained, to put it in perspective. He then went into a thorough discussion of the Beis Hamikdosh, bringing down the Rebbe’s explanations and commentaries.
The students were eager to get involved, and under Shimon’s direction, promptly began building. They put together the walls, the chambers, the Kodesh, and the Kodesh Hakedoshim. The proportions, the size, and the magnitude of the Beis Hamikdosh is now clear and easily remembered.
The students experienced a day that will remain etched in their mind. By actively building the Beis Hamikdosh, with all its details, they now have a real sense of what it looks like, therefore strengthening their understanding, and reinforcing their yearning to have our Beis Hamikdosh again.
