Sephardic Jews have the long-held custom of saying Selichos from the beginning of the month of Elul. Recently, some Brazilian have another custom for Rosh Chodesh Elul: To fly to New York.
Members of Chabad of Morumbi, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of Sao Paulo, Chabad of Pinheiros and the Congregation Beit Yaacov Safra, have been coming in every year to spend the first Shabbos of Elul at the Rebbe’s Ohel gravesite in Queens.
They were led by dynamic Chabad Shliach Rabbi Dovid Weitman who also led the prayers and farbrengens in New York.
The group arrived Friday morning and over Shabbos merited to hear the story of Rabbi Shaul Wilhelm, the Shliach in Oslo, who survived an near-death illness in 2008 and continues serve Norway Jews amid many hardships.
Another Shliach who they got to hear from was Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin, Director of Chabad of Vermont, sharing how he grew up on Shlichus in Morocco and how his mother remains defiant even after her husband’s passing.
One of the stories Rabbi Weitman was of a lawyer that brought the Rebbe a draft of a book arguing that Torah and science are not contradictions.
The man told the Rebbe that he looks forward in bringing the “real book” once its published, to which the Rebbe replied that he’d rather meet the “real people” that were inspired by the new book.
On Sunday they drove to Crown Heights, had a chance to visit 770 Eastern Parkway and daven in the Rebbe’s room before touring the neighborhood and flying back home.

This guys are amazing people, they have a lot of energy, and you see how inspired they get in the Ohel, we sat together shabes afternoon for seder nigunim, a bocher said a maimer, I saw some people with tears in there eyes, we can`t imagine how this may influence there lives.
A big yasher koiach for berl lazar and dovid weitman, for starting this beautiful peulo, and iyh more shluchim will do it, the best way to make a chossid is bringing him to the rebbe.
While people of crown heights discuss what would be correct, the shluchim around the world are bringing yidim to the rebbe and making balei tshuves, tha`s the bottom line!!
Kol hakavod for the shluchim.

My dear # 8. Once in Yechidus the Rebbe told Rabbi Mangel to go to the Ohel. The Rebbe then took a calender out of his drawer and noticing that the day he mentioned was Rosh Chodesh, he told Rabbi Mangel not to go on that day. Don’t be so condescending of anothers innocent question- for as seen you don’t have all the answers yourself as # 5 is correct and you are the erroneous one.
My dear ”Lubavitcher”
Once you understand the difference between a ”Tzadik” and a ”Rebbe” you not gonna have this question anymore.
Tovo olecho zchus….
the merit of bringing bale batim tsum rebben and making them chassidim… it’s the biggest zchus that a shliach could have, more than all the tzedokes you do!!
Is a true shliach of the rebbe, that has a tremendous hatzloche in brazil, not only begashmiyus but beikar beruchniyus, keep you amazing work.
Shliach 67
They got to daven in the Rebbe’s room. Can anyone go in & daven during the week or was this an exception for “Well to-do Brazilian Jews” (your description, not mine)?
I like Meir’s (#2) comment.

Don’t tell us what your wealth can do for you, tell us what your wealth can do for the Jewish people
It’s amazing to see how shluchim bring their bale batim to spend a whole shabbos in the ohel, that can serve as inspiration an idea for all other shluchim.
