A grand Sukkah celebration took place on Wednesday, the first day of Chol Hamoed Sukkos in the “City Hall Sukkah” of the Lubavitch Youth Organization.
“I will tell you a secret,” said Councilman Eric Dinowitz, chairman of the Jewish Caucus, who helped organize the celebration, “I love being Jewish.”
In her remarks, the speaker of the NYC Council Adrienne E Adams said “I am happy to join in this great holiday with my Jewish friends and I would like to offer everyone a ‘Chag Sameach.’”
Joining the celebration was NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams who wished everyone a ‘Gut Yom Tov.’”
“This is indeed a great celebration,” said Pesach Osina, Liaison to NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, “and it was my pleasure to be of help.”
Rabbi Shmuel Butman, director, Lubavitch Youth Organization, welcomed everyone to the celebration and stressed that “the ‘Four Kinds’ upon which we make the Sukkos blessings stand for unity and inclusion.”
Words of greetings were offered by Councilmembers Selvena Brooks-Powers, Lynn Shulman, Linda Lee, Sandra Ung, Lustin Brannon, Ari Kagan and Assemblyman David Weprin.
In attendance were many community leaders Mayor’s Adviser, Joel Eisdorfer and Mayors advisor Menashe Shapiro, Consul General of Israel Asaf Zamir and Deputy Consul General Israel Nitzan, David Greenfield, CEO Met Council, NYPD Inspector Richie Taylor, Pinny Hikind from the office of NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and many more.
