After months of renovation due to damage from Hurricane Ida, the Levi Yitzchok Library at 305 Kingston Avenue finally held a grand reopening event on Sunday, Yud Daled Shvat, February 6th.
The beloved favorite library in Crown Heights now boasts new lighting, new furniture and new books for kids to read.
Hundreds of children and their mothers happily perused the stacks of books in the newly renovated space and enjoyed some reading time, as well as fun crafts, treats, free gifts, and more.
“Kids were ringing our doorbell daily while we were closed, wanting to know, ‘Is the library open yet?’,” said Rabbi Shlomo Friedman of Lubavitch Youth Organization which directs the library.
Head librarian Mrs. Tzippy Kastel was on hand to greet the visitors today, and says she’s “excited to have the place back in full swing.”

Yasher Koach to Rabbi Friedman and Rabbi Kastel and all those involved in this project. This is an amazing asset for the community and the kids. To provide kosher reading material for children and a safe warm/cool place for them to rest and read. Especially since many families live in small quarters.May you go from strength to strength. Friends,if your child enjoys going to the library consider donating a book in honor of a birthday etc. If we all do so the library can grow even more.
Thank you so much for giving this gift to our community!
For me and my children this library is a life saver. Now they will stop asking me to take them to the public library. They are big readers.
Thank you very very much for this precious needed library. As soon as my pushka is full you know who’s getting it.
Are fathers allowed in, teens, etc?
