Governor Kathy Hochul came to Crown Heights to participate in the annual Succah gathering at the home of Chanina Sperlin, where she was seated beside the next Mayor of New York, Brooklyn President Eric Adams.
The Governor recalled fondly how she had walked the streets of the community together with Rabbi Sperlin and Rabbi Eli Cohen of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, during her years as Lieutenant Governor, and pledged to work closely with the community now as Governor. Adams spoke also of his long and productive relationship with the community leaders and of his hope that he would have a warm and strong working relationship with the Governor once elected.
Other guests who joined the community celebration were Kings County District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Assembly Member and County Democratic Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, District Leader Edu Hermelyn, City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo, and City Council Member Kalman Yeger, Democratic Designates for City Council Darlene Mealy and Steven Saperstein, Israel Consul in New York Israel Nitzan.
Other elected officials who were unable to be present were represented by their staff members, including Eli Slavin for Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Jonathan Shabsheikhes for Attorney General Letitia James, Eric Greenberg for State Comptroller Tom Dinapoli, Pinny Hikind for NY City Comptroller Scott Stringer.
Joining the assembly were The Commanding Officer of the 77th Precinct Inspector Tony Brown, Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct Inspector Joseph Hayward, along with Inspector Richie Taylor of NYPD Community Affairs, and Lieutenant Ira Jablonsky of Brooklyn South, Shimon Herz of Shalom Senior Center, Mark Appel of The Bridge, R. Moshe Indik of Williamsburg, Arna Lipkind, with the Majority Leader, David Klestchik with the DA, Jelanie Deshong, with the Governor, Godfe Bayalama with Senator Myrie, Mary Pascal from the Mayor’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives, Joseph Jeffries with Darlene Mealy.

Why are CH representatives endorsing Eric Adams who will not renounce his association with Al Sharpton or Farrakhan or even call them out for their despicable rhetoric and actions? As much as we were disgusted by the anti-Semitic remarks Curtis Sliwa made that were revealed earlier this summer from a video taken of him in 2018 when he was giving a speech upstate at a Reform Party meeting, he is still the better candidate based on his organizational skills and experience, speaking abilities, true anti-crime positions and unwillingness to play politics.
