Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned over a barrage of harassment allegations Tuesday in a fall from grace a year after he was widely hailed nationally for his detailed daily briefings and leadership during the darkest days of COVID-19.
The three-term governor’s decision was announced as momentum built in the Legislature to remove him by impeachment. It came after New York’s attorney general released the results of an investigation that found Cuomo harassed at least 11 women.
Investigators said he subjected women to unwanted inappropriate behavior.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, a 62-year-old Democrat and former member of Congress from the Buffalo area, will become the state’s 57th governor and the first woman to hold the post.
The #MeToo-era scandal cut short not just a career but a dynasty: Cuomo’s father, Mario Cuomo, was governor in the 1980s and ’90s, and the younger Cuomo was often mentioned as a potential candidate for president, an office his father famously contemplated seeking. Even as the scandal mushroomed, Cuomo was planning to run for reelection in 2022.
Cuomo still faces the possibility of criminal charges, with a number of prosecutors around the state moving to investigate him.
“Given the circumstance, the best way I can help now is to step aside and let government get back to governing,” said Gov. Cuomo, whose resignation will go into effect in 14 days. “Doing the right thing is doing the right thing to you.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio released the following statement on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation: “Make no mistake, this is the result of survivors bravely telling their stories. It was past time for Andrew Cuomo to resign and it’s for the good of all New York.”
New York State Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie released the following statement on the announcement:
“New York faces significant challenges at this moment: rising COVID cases, economic uncertainty facing renters and homeowners, and an epidemic of gun violence among many others. These challenges demand focused, steady leadership that isn’t distracted by personal grievances or drawn-out litigation. The Governor’s decision to step down means that we can get back to the urgent business of strengthening our state and its people.
“I am grateful to the women who risked their careers and reputations to come forward and share their experiences. We owe these public servants a debt of gratitude, and we can show that gratitude by ensuring our workplaces are safe and free from harassment, abuse and retaliation.
“I look forward to working with incoming Governor Hochul to rebuild the trust and accountability New Yorkers should expect from their government, and to working together to address the challenges we face to build a better, brighter future.”
Praise Hashem🙏! Long over due!
The murder of 17,000 senior citizens is being covered up by these harassments charges.
Yimach Shmo V’zichro
Assault charges aren’t a cover, they’re a terrible and disgusting violation of human rights. Lets give these charges the attention they deserve.
Assault charges are horrible but the murder of 17,000 seniors was even more horrible and is not being mentioned. So you have to agree with the above.
Brought to the highest, to fall to the lowest!
Interesting how the harrassment of women was given as the sole reason for the governor’s resignation, but no mention was made about his total neglect and mismanagement of the nursing homes during the height of COVID.
Can de Blasio do us a favor and resign too?
I’m a liberal democrat, but anyone who acts this way towards women deserves to face the consequences.
I wish republicans held their leaders to the same standard.
But only against those who are deemed (rightly or wrongly) to be conservatives.
Liberal Republicans (the vast majority of Republicans) get a free pass, by other liberal Republicans and by some Democrats.
…. hold their leaders to same (actually, higher) standard.
What about Trump? Who admitted on camera to assaulting women? And who has treated women without any semblance of respect since the beginning?
Which Republican is as slimy and dirty as this Guy
That being said, all politicians only care about their own glory
Have you already forgotten about trump?
By this token trump should have resigned as well, for unlike Coumo he was on tape admitting that he touched women Inappropriately, Now obviously we don’t believe coumos denials, but trump admitted to this stuff.
But I wonder why we except it from a president and not from a governor.
If it’s about being being an example surly a president is even higher profile.
So if this is the reason he should be out, I’ll pass.
Trump should have resigned.
Had Republicans cared, they wouldn’t have voted that monster trump into office.
Democrats do care about women and our rights, therefore they’re willing to hold someone of their own party accountable for his disgusting actions.
Why are any Jews Republican? It’s literally an anti Torah anti morals party.
Show us where there is credible evidence that Trump touched women inappropriately and against their will. Talking about what they’ll allow one to do is not the same as saying that he did that, you know.
Maybe instead you should take a good hard look at the current occupant of the White House, he of sniffing little girls’ hair and so forth. But probably not, since he has the magic D after his name; why, you folks can barely even accept that Kennedy and Clinton acted immorally.
That he touched women inappropriately?
As far as I know the women he touched were there on their own decision for such antics.
And that was up till his 20’s or so, and never once, he was in office.
Monica Lewinsky, anyone?
Trump probably shouldn’t, but at the time he was not in office.
His past actions speak to his disgusting character.
And the way he treated Hilary Clinton throughout the campaign was as chauvinistic as it gets.
Not to mention trump is anti-choice and anti-female liberation.
I believe women always.
Do you believe the allegations against Biden?
And the rest of the squad?
These women are so incredibly brave and courageous. Female power!!
He forced nursing homes to take covid patients, killing thousands of other residents, then got paid 5 million for his book how wonderful he was handling covid.
He refused to admit guilt and thought he got away with it.
As he forced nursing homes to take covid patients, under threats,, he was forced under threats to resign.
One way or another he was forced to face justice.
He wasnt getting away with what he did
De Blasio deserves to be next! Please hashem!
When someone sits in front of reporters, raises his hand to the sky and says; G-d didn’t do all this, we did! then this was expected. No one can do that and get away with this.
…בנפול אויבך אל תשמח
Will his replacement be any better?
That’s about yidden only

I like the way this post was carefully worded. As to the content: I’m glad he’s resigning. I salute the women who came forward, for their courage and strength. I wish for them complete healing. Amongst the “powerful” men who treated women inappropriately and got called out for it, he seems comparatively quite the tame sinner, and but nevertheless a sinner who cannot hold the position he had if he can’t control himself or decide how to act aligned with his societal norms and standards. I hope his resignation and probable ensuing downfall helps his victims heal. I salute him… Read more »
