Students from United Lubavitch Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway spent a recent Friday afternoon in Crown Heights.
The boys, taking part in a new middos tovos program named for Reb Shmuel Shrage obm, were ready to perform acts of goodness and kindness. They stood at strategic locations on busy Kingston Avenue, looking for people to help.
The students carried bags home, held doors open, and greeted all they met. They also entertained children so parents were able to shop. They even added quarters to expired meters on the Avenue, saving many from an erev Shabbos parking ticket.
“I couldn’t believe it,” exclaimed C. D. Jankelowitz. “I stepped outside with things to toivel and two kids said to me, ‘Good Erev Shabbos! Can we help you?'”
Another passerby, Mrs. Pellin, thanked the boys for their help. “This really exemplifies what the program is about – it shows sensitivity for others. I’m proud of all the children involved.”
After two hours of helping others, the boys prepared for Shabbos, which included inspirational fabrengens at the homes of teachers Rabbi Harari and Rabbi Dechter.

i am very moved by this. truly spreading acts of goodness and kindness. you boys have no idea how many people must have been affected by the “small” things you did that erev shabbos by the chain reaction. it’s just beautiful!
