Chana Yerushalmi, a student at the Bnos Menachem Girls High School in Brooklyn, always had a passion for helping mothers with young children. Yet she always felt like she wasn’t doing enough.
Last December, Chana attended the Jewish Girls Unite Winter Leadership Retreat, directed by Rabbi Avraham and Nechama Laber, with four of her friends. Inspired by the four day Leadership retreat, where girls are empowered to become leaders and shine, Chana (and her friends were) motivated to take action. Her vision clear; to help families with their children while at the same time inspiring youth to be more active in achieving their own goals.
In partnership with Save a Neshama Endowment, (SANE) headed by Miriam Yerushalmi, and in conjunction with JEWISH GIRLS UNITE, Chana is launching a project called ONE THREAD with a mission to connect High School girls in Crown Heights and families in need of help. Girls will be matched up with a family and volunteer once a week.
ONE THREAD volunteers will be inspired through special programs to achieve their highest potential. Volunteers will benefit from Leadership workshops with professionals, and the first 5-10 girls who sign up will receive a scholarship to the Annual JEWISH GIRLS UNITE WINTER LEADERSHIP RETREAT in December in Latham, NY.
The 12th Annual JEWISH GIRLS UNITE Winter Leadership Retreat will take place from Friday, December 23, to Monday evening December 26, in Latham, NY. The winter leadership retreat attracts girls from around the world and is open to girls ages 8-18 and will include a variety of workshops and activities and self discovery tools to turn passion into action. The theme of the Retreat will be G.L.O.W. – Girls Light Up Our World!
On Dec. 4, ONE THREAD volunteers are invited to a Kickoff Event & Workshop called “The Thread of Kindness” with Miriam Yerushalmi and Nechama Laber.
On March 15, 2016, Chana was honored with the JGU Shining Star Leadership Award together with Golda Daphna and Dassi Sessel at the JGU Anniversary Celebration in the Jewish Children’s Museum. Chana sang her original song called, “Take on the world” and was honored for using her gifts to light up the world and lead others.
“The mission of Jewish Girls Unite is to create an empowered global community of Jewish girls using innovation and technology. Through online leadership workshops and retreats, girls are inspired to use their unique gifts to shine their inner light and “TAKE ON THE WORLD!”, says Nechama Laber.

i am not in CH but salute these girls for their initiative. another idea they might consider is a service to young mothers living in Ch with no family there. they could volunteer in pairs to offer babysitting Shabbos morning for an hour or two, so mothers are not ‘locked’ in their homes all Shabbos long. If a bunch of girls do this, they will then be all meeting each other at noon, when the mothers come back home, and have their time together starting noon. in many of our homes the shabbos meal doesnt start until 1-2 pm, so… Read more »

You are an inspiration to all teenagers out there!! You work hard for what you believe to be correct i cannot be more amazed by your incredible talent. You dont just talk the talk bt you walk the walk keep making eberyone around you proud. Im sure hashem and the rebbe are looking down at you amd smiling. You see a need in the community and you dont just sit amd talk about it but you do! Truly setting an example for teenagers and the amount they can accomplish!!
