An 11-year-old Jewish girl was attacked at a Crown Heights playground by a band of black youths who slammed her into a metal slide, kicked her repeatedly – and pelted her with anti-Semitic invective, the girl’s mom said Wednesday.
“Dumb Jew! B—-! Why are you here? Why are you in this world?” the boys screamed as they pummeled Nechama Benjamin at a Montgomery St. playground early Tuesday evening.
The shocking attack by at least three boys is being investigated by police. The beating caused Nechama to black out and left her with a bloody nose – and a terrible fear of leaving home, her mom said.
“My daughter told me she is afraid to go out, to go to the park – to go anywhere,” said Elka Benjamin, 31.
Nechama went to the local park with her 6-year-old brother around 6 p.m. Although Crown Heights has long been plagued by racial and religious tension, Nechama’s mother thought it was okay for her kids to go to the playground alone because the family lives on the same block.
Trouble started when one of a group of boys playing soccer tossed the ball at Nechama, hitting her in the leg, her mother said.
She tossed it back – and an argument ensued. The boys surrounded Nechama, taunting her mercilessly, her mother said.
Then the boys grabbed her by the hair and dragged her from the bench to a playground slide.
NYPD’s 71st Precinct stationhouse told COLlive Thursday afternoon: “We have a person who has been identified. We are taking this matter seriously. At this time it does not appear to be biased in nature.”

to #9-10 1] a good self defense class would teach how to be a where of her surroundings and your right it wont help in every case but it will definitely help to some extend in every case 2] email me I might be able to get u in contact with a female teacher
Now that they have a suspect the only way to make sure this won’t happen again is if we make sure he is punished severely for this. If not then it would just keep getting worse…

I think it’s a great idea and should be done but it’s not the only thing…think about this case, would it really help the 11 year old girl against a bunch of teen boys?
This wasn’t always the way things were..until bloomberg happened things were not this bad..
what about self-defense classes for women? (i mean conducted only for women, etc)

I am just a bucher, but I try to help as much as I could, at the beginning of the summer I offered to help set up self defense class’s for any one intrested at a cheep price, and guess what less then 10 people where intrested ,if 100 people would have signed up maybe after a few muggers and other criminal got beat up during an attack the situation in crown heights would be different, so last chance anyone interested please email [email protected] or call 347-272-9183
