Message from the Hecht family:
Tomorrow ג’ טבת is the second yahrzeit of our dear father, Rabbi Peretz Hecht ע”ה.
:מה זרעו בחיים אף הוא בחיים
Our father was beloved and esteemed by the many students he taught and embraced with love; smothered them with encouragement and empowered them with confidence. Reb Peretz was a living example not only of one who was dedicated to learning but also one who lived what he learnt and that was key to the impact he had on his students. Numerous young men can attest to this aspect of him.
“R’ Peretz” as he was affectionately called, warmed the space he occupied with Chassidishe Harzike varimkeit. He radiated the light of Torah and Chassidus, and was careful to accord due respect to every human being.
Our father’s Talmidim, over a span of fifteen years that he taught in Oholei Torah, were fortunate individuals who truly can claim their stake of good fortune. The imprint he left them will forever influence and inspire their life’s journey.
Because what our father cared most about learning, was delving into the learning with “Iyun” eyes and that is what he instilled into his talmidim. This is why the idea for “Pathways To Iyun” came about, liluy nishmaso.
קרן תלמידי ר’ פרץ, has opened a door to new horizons in learning Gemara, that will serve to whet the appetite of Yeshiva bochurim and involve them in the learning process by bringing them to begin thinking more deeply and making it their own, with a “gishmak!”
The project was launched in 5774, at Oholei Torah, and the texts for learning are now available to everyone, at no cost, at a new website, rabbihecht.wordpress.com.
This project is a breakthrough in this field since nothing of its kind exists in English. The instructors preparing the material choose relevant matters which are appealing to any bochur in any shiur.
Worksheets in English for this bi-weekly series are written up professionally but avoid becoming too technical. The design of each page is also most attractive. These sheets point the students to issues that need to be clarified and suggest questions that arise, thereby stimulating discussion and encouraging the student to delve further into the subject. Sources where the discussion of these topics can be found are also given.
We anticipate this project, לע”נ ר’ פרץ ב”ר יהושע ע”ה, to return עטרה לישנה , the spirit of our beloved mechanech, who impacted his Talmidim in so many unsaid ways.
We invite anyone who would like to participate in this project to donate here.

Dear Sponsor,
First and foremost a sincere, “Thank you”!
Thank you for your gracious support of such a publication (Pathways to Iyun). The appreciation and benefit that my chavrusah and I have gained in our learning since our year began is unparalleled to any other ספר or publication outside of the גמרא (and מפרשים).
Ultimately the unique and special difference that “Pathways in Iyun” has over other seforim such as Artscroll is the ability to enable its reader the chance to think for oneself and yet guide him- in a healthy manner- a balance where the teacher has the correct structure and boundaries in the way he may analyze the גפ”ת, yet the freedom to personalize the way he may look at the גמרא , רש”י or even תוספות in his own way.
Another powerful strength that “Pathways in Iyun” has is to guide the reader after they have finished looking at the גמרא. Those same concepts mentioned and explained by מפרשים are brought together and compared with each other-analyzed for each word used- giving a further picture of their view of the סוגי and initiating discussion between the chavrusah.
Aside from all the aforementioned there is one underlying difference (and perhaps the source for such details) the ability to empower the reader, whether from bridging the gap between above understanding to more advanced or a general clarity with what is going on in your גמרא.
“Pathways to Iyun” is a powerful tool while learning גמרא.
You as the sponsor should feel proud and privileged to be a part of such an initiative!

Ashreinu Mah Tov Chelkeinu
Truly Amazing. Wish this was around when i was in Yeshiva. Maybe some people know exactly their way around a 500 page Kovetz Mefarshim and all the material in the back of the Gemoroh, but I certainly did not. I appreciate the way these links force you to really think about the Gemoroh, not just read it.
