A man has died after being hit by a New York City sanitation truck in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4.
The pedestrian was struck on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue around 7 a.m. Thursday, sources said. One person claimed that truck was driving against traffic.
Emergency responders were unable to save the man’s life and pronounced him dead on arrival, according to police.
The driver remained at the scene and the investigation remains ongoing, said police.
The accident near the Parking Lot of the Oholei Torah boys school leaving all 6 buses stranded and unable to exit to pick up students for the school day.
The school said that buses 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 are canceled and “parents of these buses must bring their children to school this morning.” Buses 2, 5 7, 8 will be running on regular schedule this morning with the students being dropped off at school.
The NYPD closed off Brooklyn Avenue to investigate the fatal accident and as of now, no cars are allowed onto the school’s block of Eastern Parkway.
For students of Oholei Torah’s East Flatbush school, they will be running 4 Avenue buses starting at 9 o’clock on Schenectady, Albany, Brooklyn and Nostrand Avenues, these buses will stop at every corner from Eastern Parkway until Winthrop.
