This year there is a special touch to the music filling the air at Gan Yeladim in Stamford, CT, as they launched their very own Gan song “Gan is a Garden”.
The band 8th Day, a Chasidic pop rock band based in California wrote the song exclusively for Gan.
It debuted at the annual Gala dinner – where the theme was “We Are Singing Again” but it continues to fill the corridors of Gan almost daily and especially during Rosh Chodesh “sing along” with the speaker booming on the playground and other times of celebrations.
The theme of the song was inspired in a literal sense by Gan Yaladim being a ‘garden of children” where they grow and flourish in Mitzvot and learning. In a more spiritual sense is the idea of creating a special place where the children can do Mitzvot and grow in Yiddishkeit, of a beautiful garden where Hashem would want to live to be with His children. The Yeladim (children) who inspired this amazing number absolutely adore the song, singing the lyrics in the hallways and dancing exuberantly to the music. For the Morahs at Gan, the song they believe will hopefully inspire the children to continue to grow & blossom like beautiful flowers in Mitzvot and Torah for years to come.
The idea of Hashem inhabiting a garden in our physical world is a theme the Lubavitcher Rebbe had spoken of many times. It is a Chasidic belief that when we do Mitzvot and make this world hospitable to its Creator we banish the darkness and we reveal the true beautiful garden it was created to be.
At Gan they always strive to create a place that the Creator is delighted to inhabit and this catchy and popular song embodies this hope.
