It only took a moment for Talya Levinger of Beitar to learn her diagnosis. It only took a week for her to become an amputee, bound to a wheelchair. And it will take years for her to learn how to live a normal life again.
Doctors identified an infection in her bone last month, and within days they fully amputated her right leg. She has since returned home to her husband and small children, where she struggles to do everyday tasks such as cook, clean, and dress her children.
The Levinger apartment is currently not wheelchair-accessible, which means that Talya is unable to move through hallways, access the bathroom, or come and go freely.
Doctors have given Talya some hope for the future: A prosthetic leg, combined with physical therapy, could mean that one day the mother of 2 could walk again. An emergency fund has been started with the goal of getting Talya a new leg.
Her daughters surround her in emotional video footage. “Suddenly I find it difficult to function at home, care for the children… I really want to be independent. And for this I need a new prosthetic leg, to get up and function at home and outside with the children. I am turning to you to help us, for our family to be happy. “
