As young children, the brothers Friedman would sit around the shabbos table learning, and singing Shabbos Zemiros with their father, R’ Yakov Moshe Ha’Kohen Friedman OBM. These moments poured a foundation of love of Jewish music into every member of the family.
How strong a love of his Yiddishkeit, his children and Shabbos Zemiros R’ Yakov Moshe must’ve had when conveying these timeless classics over to his children? When you think about it, with each word – with each note they shared around the table, Rabbi Friedman was doing far more than just spending quality time with his family. On the surface it may seem so, but in truth, what was actually happening was the planting of seeds. Seeds which would one day bear fruit and supply the an entire nation of Yidden with genuinely uplifting and beautiful music for the entire Jewish nation.
While the Friedman family is known to the world as being pillars of Jewish music, what is little known to all, is the fact that throughout all the days of his life, R’ Yakov Moshe would actively seek out ways to help struggling Shluchim; those who, without hesitating, sacrificed the comforts of living in a bustling chassidishe neighborhood to do the Rebbe’s work. They’d uproot their family to go find Yidden in need of spiritual nourishment, and reconnect each one with the Aibeshter.
But the role of a Shliach, as prestigious as it is to carry out a life-long mission for the Rebbe; does not come without it’s challenges. In a most humble method, without ever asking for anything in return, Rabbi Friedman would literally seek out which Shliach is struggling; where does the family live? How many kinderlach? What size clothes and shoes do they all wear? Do they have food? These are questions that came before anything else. And turn the world over he did.
After his passing, his sons began a fund which emulates his every way; to seek out and find the shliach suffering a personal financial struggle. While many shluchim have established thriving communities with large centers and shuls, a great deal of shluchim in far corners of the world get through the days with scraping by — sometimes not even able to do that!
Yad L’Shliach had the zchus of helping families of the Rebbe’s Shluchim in a most humble, and unique way. When the fridge needs to be stocked. When an emergency medical situation arises and money is needed for medical bills and well-being of the family. When faced with the threat of eviction. When a chassunah is rapidly approaching, but there’s no money in the bank to cover any of the costs. When there are no more hand-me-down clothing to hand down. Rachmana L’tzlan, my friends, the financial battle some Shluchim of the Rebbe encounter…..For those opportunities to help the Rebbe’s shluchim, R’ Yakov Moshe thrived. For these moments, Yad L’Shliach was established.
This CD is on the shelves today to change the world in more than one way. Maaser funds can absolutely be spent on the purchase as 100% proceeds go to support another family.
