Rabbi and Mrs. Levi Stolik were stuck. The school was saying “medicate” and they knew their son was capable, bright, and willing to learn. He just needed help with self-regulation. “The way I see it,” said Rabbi Stolik, “he just had too much ohr and too few keilim to manage in the classroom.”
They reached out to Applied Neuroplasticity expert, Dr. Aryeh (Arnie) Gotfryd, PhD, Director of Maxi Mind Learning, for help. Now it was Dr. Gotfryd’s turn to be stuck. “Rabbi, we are only working in and around Toronto and Miami. We have no one in New York.”
The Rabbi was insistent. “Listen, Doc. I’m ready to do things at home. Give me the basics – simple tools, simple training, simple activities to help my son.”
So was born Maxi Mind Learning’s Home-Based Sensory Integration Exercise Program for Focus-Challenged Children. Stolik got a balance board and a couple of bean bags, Gotfryd provided a 16-page instructional booklet and some videos and they were off to the races.
“After a few months,” Gotfryd reminisces, “I got some photos via WhatsApp. The Stolik boy was acing his tests and getting teudos for metsuyanim (certificates of achievement) and best of all, the urgent messages from school had pretty much stopped.
Dr. Gotfryd called for the scoop. Rabbi Stolik confessed. “The truth is, I didn’t do the exercises all that often. Whenever he was having a hard time, we’d pull out the balance board and bean bags and do some exercises. Once he would settle down, we’d leave him to his own devices for a while, and just pull out the gear as needed.”
“Truth be known,” says Gotfryd, “the Home Based Program is just a tiny slice of Maxi Mind Learning’s signature brain training courses, but it’s enough to make a difference for a lot of children who struggle with focus, academics, and self-regulation.
This 3 month, Home-Based program is being offered now for free for the first 120 registrants in honor of Yud-Alef Nisan, together with a members-only whatsapp support group and Dr. Gotfryd’s weekly training and Q&A hour. To learn more and/or register, visit www.maximind.ca/rebbeskinder.
Based in Thornhill, Canada, Maxi Mind Learning serves the general public with a full time staff of 7, a clinical psychologist, and 25 neuroeducational therapists who treat about 200 children per year with over a 90% success rate.
The Maxi Mind Methodology is a drug-free, focus-through-fun, activity based system that involves movement, music, technology, and personal trainer for each child. The result is stronger connections in the brain, with more signal, less noise, faster transmission, and a maturity boost overall.
Over the past year, Gotfryd has led the company’s expansion into South Florida where he is focusing specifically on the needs of the Jewish Community, with pilot projects at Lubavitch Educational Center in Miami, Cheder Chabad in Del Ray Beach, and within the community in Hallandale Beach.
The results have been encouraging with nearly all the children showing substantial improvement. Rabbi and Mrs. Avraham Rimler have a child in the program at LEC. They tried the program because they had been getting pressure to medicate or take him elsewhere as he just wasn’t managing in the classroom, and homework was a two-hour struggle at home night after night.
Now they are seeing perfect and near-perfect tests most of the time, he is sailing through the Hebrew homework, and the urgent calls from school have stopped. Is it Maxi Mind that’s making the difference? They don’t know for sure, but their son loves the program, and the turnaround has been remarkable.
Teachers are noticing the changes as well. One Rebbi says he has seen great results with one of his students, who has actually flipped from becoming one of the least mature to one of the most mature students in the class.
Neuroeducational Therapist, Mrs. Dini Ben-Ishay, is managing the Maxi Mind program in Cheder Chabad in Del Ray and is thrilled to see how quickly some of these children master their skills within the program.
Rebbetzin Chaya Matusof, the Cheder Chabad Girls’ Principal said, “Our goal as a school is to be able to cater to the needs of each child, thereby unlocking their true potential. A partnership with Maxi Mind allows us to further this cause, by having its unique program available as a support for those students who can benefit from it. We are excited and look forward to what Maxi Mind will add to our shared vision of a meaningful and productive education for all.”
Gotfryd is looking forward to expanding the program throughout South Florida, but at the same time he is acutely aware of the limitations of his classic brain training model. Not everyone can access the in-person training whether for logistical or cost reasons.
That’s why this Home-Based program is so important. It’s an ufaratsta mode that transcends the limitations of space, time, dollars and human resources. If you are willing to get a simple balance board and a couple of bean bags, (total cost on Amazon of under $50) and play with your child 15 minutes a day, a few times a week for 12 weeks, using the free exercises he will provide, Dr. Gotfryd gives his 100% guarantee that you will see results in focus, learning and self-regulation skills, or the cost of materials refunded.
The program runs 3 months, from Yud-Alef Nisan to Yud-Beis Tamuz, and includes a facilitated WhatsApp support group and a weekly training and support hour run by Dr. Gotfryd, where all your questions will be answered, iyH.
The Course is free and registration is limited to the first 120 parents to sign up. To learn more and/or participate, visit www.maximind.ca/rebbeskinder.
