Over 250 friends and supporters came together on Wednesday, May 18 for the Annual Gala Dinner of Chabad on Bayview in Toronto, Canada.
This year’s ‘Expanding Horizons’ theme highlighted the continual growth of the young organization and the upcoming commencement of the construction phase of its Centre for Jewish Life.
Held at the historical Design Exchange, the very first trading floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange, the evening was emceed by community member Evan Cooperman and the highlights included a high-end silent and live auction, a mesmerizing show by mentalist Haim Goldenberg.
Chabad on Bauview’s director Rabbi Levi Gansburg spoke passionately of “our individual and communal need to find moments of pause and reflection and to forge forward with unwavering optimism and temerity in realizing our dreams in expanding our horizons.”
The evening honored Herb and Rhoda Singer, founders of Discount Car & Truck Rental with 300 locations across Canada, and proud members of Chabad on Bayview.
The Singers are quite familiar with the Chabad movement, as both Herb and Rhoda are graduates of the Lubavitch school system in the early 60’s. Herb studied at the central Lubavitch Yeshiva at the corner of Bedford and Dean in Brooklyn and Rhoda was from the first graduating class of the Beth Rivkah School for Girls.

The evening reached an emotional peak as Rabbi Levi and Rivky Gansburg presented the Singers with their award of honor.
Herb Singer thanked the corporate sponsors and friends who came out to support Chabad and emotionally relayed his long connection to Chabad and his many encounters with the Rebbe at the Machane Israel Development Fund.
He also spoke of their pride in assisting the Gansburg’s in realizing their dream of anchoring a permanent centre where the next generation will easily access their every Jewish need.
Chabad on Bayview opened its doors in the autumn of 2007 and serve over 300 families with an array of programs and initiatives, including 3 locations of its Hebrew School of the Arts, Garden Preschool, Chabad Young Professionals, jTeens, Bayview Shul, Bayview Jewish Academy and the Jewish Lawyers Network.
An integral part of their success is the dedication and commitment of their partners, shluchos Sarah Encaoua and Naomi Wagowsky.

Having been Rhoda’s classmate and friend all those years ago ( although sometimes it seems like yesterday)I am not surprised that she truly deserves to be honored
Rhoda was allways a warm caring person
And Rhoda and Yechiel definitely deserve this recognition
Such wonderful work.
We are so proud.
Not sure but if Tony and Bernice Rebuk are from your centre give them our regards.
