The remnants of Ida are bearing down on the New York region, with torrential downpours and the threat of tornadoes. Flash flood watches are in effect, and tornado watches have been issued into the overnight hours.
In New York, The National Weather Service warns not to drive your car into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
Several reports of tornados have been spotted stretching from Maryland to South Jersey and the remnants will of Ida will bring that threat of tornadoes into the city and the surrounding suburbs. As of this evening, a tornado watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday morning.
A rarely issued “Tornado Emergency” has been issued for the Trenton area in Central New Jersey, citing imminent danger from a tornado that has been spotted.
Flooding at Bar Mitzvah
Anyone know why there is so much basement flooding recently?
Bc it’s raining.
Climate change
Weather change is not climate change.
Look it up.
As the earth gets warmer there will be worse and worse flooding in low lying places like New York
That just isn’t true.
A lot of rain
Because of climate change.
It’s due to crumpling infrastructure. Where I live there is a couple blocks that gets flooded due to poor drainage system. Like that for 10+ years already. What did Deblasio do about that?! Zilch, nada.
literally every low lying city is experiencing flooding because of rising sea levels. Add to that more extreme weather AND NYC bad infrastructure and you will be seeing a lot of this more often.
The sea is not rising any faster than it has been since it was created. Weather is no more extreme than it has been historically. These are just lies that the environuts tell you and you’re gullible enough to believe them.
Is anyone organizing a relief effort? The damage must be tremendous!! Please post link
everyone dumps the garbage on the floor and ends up clogging the city sewers that is so old and probably no maintenance or upgrades done. this happened 10 years ago approximately
Ummmm, lots of rain?
Is there school tomorrow
Idk
Stay away from flooded areas (even indoors), stay safe.
Once the water stops flowing this will need proper cleaning. This can’t possibly be cleaned properly as long as people are inside, and everyone walking through is contributing to contamination. It first must be dried completely, then cleaned, then disinfected. Any soaked porous surfaces (plaster, ceiling tile, etc) need to be removed and discarded and what’s underneath fully dried out and disinfected and then repaired; otherwise there is a risk of mold contamination. If water got into ductwork then all of that needs to be drained, cleaned, and fully disinfected and dried. If any of this water is from the… Read more »
They never fixed the holes in the roof of 770 properly so water pours from roof thru womens section thru holes in the floor to the men. Basement is lowest point for water to go
This is nothing new 770 had been leaking for many decades because it was never built properly to begin with
But how 770 looked like last night was much worse than I’ve ever seen before.
770 needs a proper renovation to fix everything(and maybe finally we can expand 770 also). Just by fixing a few holes in the ceiling won’t help.
its mamish a mabul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!
It’s real.
But as Jews we don’t share the same response to climate change as non J. Climate change has been used by politicians to try and change the way we live. If not for Torah, there would be concern for the safety and longevity of this planet in light of climate change. But we know that Moshiach is coming. The world was not designed to exist in this hazardous state forever. So we can continue focusing on torah and mitzvos and not really worry about climate change
Hashem gave us this planet to take care of. If we don’t worry about climate change, we will die. We can’t stay focused on ourselves, we have to focus on the only home we have.
“If we don’t worry about climate change we will die”.
Listen to yourself, you are in hysterics. There is no reason in the world to suppose any such thing.
Remember what the FR said about “one G-d and two worlds”?
So since moshiach is coming we don’t have to worry about the current state of the world? This is such a horrible take.
Should we have not banned CFCs from products that were eating away at our ozone and letting in harmful radiation because “moshiach is anyways coming?”
just wow
The whole “ozone hole” scare was made up from the beginning. There has *always* been a “hole” over the south pole in the southern spring, and it has nothing to do with CFCs. If it were caused by them then the hole would have been over the north, because that’s where the overwhelming majority of CFCs were released, and they don’t cross the equator. The “hole” (it isn’t really a hole, just a thin spot) naturally waxes and wanes, regardless of how many CFCs there are or aren’t.
Global warming is very real, here is your proof. Stop voting in right wing politicians who don’t believe in science.
Because there are areas of science that are a lot more certain than this one, and which your beloved left-wing politicians deny. For example, that people with XX chromosomes are female and those with XY are male, and that this doesn’t change because of how a person “identifies” or what they dress as or what body parts they cut off. Meanwhile, your climate change “science” requires fudging the data, hiding the decline, threatening anyone who says differently, etc.
Science, actual science, says that there is nothing historically unusual about our weather, and even if “global warming” is real (for which there’s very little evidence) it has nothing to do with this. Hurricane activity has recently been unusually low, and may now be returning to its normal level.
Bh what beautiful yidden saving the sefer torahs!!! This is the mindset of our beautiful brothers they are not carrying out art or couches, rather our most precious and sacred sefer torahs. Hashem look at the love beni Yisrael has for you. May we merit to see hashems revealed love with the coming of moshiach now. כתיבה וחתימה טובה
שנה טובה ומתוקה
attributing this to “climate change,” ask yourself: why are celebrities and politicians and so forth continuing to live in beachfront houses? Shouldn’t they be worrying about them being underwater? And the obvious answer is that they know that it’s a crock, meant to scare the gullible and the easily cowed. (Look at yourself in a mirror if you’re not sure who those are.)
No, the reason is indeed because of mayors and governors and so forth who pontificate about “climate change” rather than actually working to get their cities’ and states’ infrastructure upgraded.
Climate change is real, just like covid is real, just like the vaccines are real.
Why are so many people unwilling to believe in science?
I thought we were talking about science, which requires evidence, which you have failed to present. Not belief; that’s for religion. Well, I have a perfectly good religion of my own, thank you very much.
You don’t. You have substituted a false religion in the place of science. You worship power and Nature (which is classical avoda zara), and you support anything that increases government control over people. No matter what the alleged problem is, your solution is always more regulation; because it’s the regulation that you really want, and the various problems are merely the excuses you give for it. Well, liberty is more important than life, so you can go to gehennom.
Firs of all, since when do we care about what celebrities? Second, I am fully confident that you know nothing about climate change other than whatever political commentators you follow say about it. I am not going to waste my time educating you on the subject, but you have to be blind to not see what’s going on and how predictions made in the late 90 and early 2000s are all happening all over the world. Lastly, when you are a millionaire, you can afford to have multiple homes, even if they are in areas that are slowly being eroded… Read more »
So you’ve completely missed my point. Not surprising. No, we don’t care about what celebrities do. But ask yourself: when, for example, the Obamas bought a large property on Martha’s Vineyard (long after the “late 90[s] and early 2000s”), one of those places that supposedly is in great danger from rising sea levels, were they just throwing away their money? Or is it perhaps that they have enough sense to realize that these “predictions” are at best greatly overblown? And by the way, how’s about you share some of those predictions that actually came true? Oh, and since you’re accusing… Read more »
A Large reason why in CH (and other parts of NYC) Water Backed up into Everyone’s Basements and Ground Floor Levels, as well why there was in some places in CH about 2 feet of water (for a time period last night) causing tremendous damage etc, Is because our Catch Basins/Storm Drains by ALL our City Street corners are Clogged with Garbage, the thing with NYC unless we let the city know to fix their problem then there is no chance they will fix it on their own, So lets let them know, Most City Street corners in CH have… Read more »
I hope ppl who got flooded have insurance!!
As tempting as it may be to ask a cleanup company to deal with the insurance company, watch for ripoffs. They max out your claim with high prices for nonsense. Get everything in writing first!
Hire public adjusters if you need help with claims.
Stop blaming climate change for this storm. This is just the remnants of a Hurricane that made its way up North over NYC. This storm was not particularly strong as compared to storms from over 50 years ago. The only difference is the path it took over land. If climate change caused Hurricanes, then we should have had multiple Cat 5 storms every year for the last 15 years.
No one was crying about climate change ten years ago when hurricane sandy hit, and the damage was much worse than this. This is called rain, the reason things flooded is because there was a record amount of rain. Doesn’t matter how close to the ocean you are, “rising ocean levels” don’t reach neighborhoods like crown heights, rain does.
…crying about “climate change” ten years ago. And they did blame Sandy on it. They were wrong then and they’re still wrong. It is normal for this part of the world to have regular hurricanes. We had about 50 years of abnormal quiet, and so now that things are (probably) returning to normal the low-information idiots are crying that it’s all the fault of the technology that makes their lives possible.
