Members of Chabad of the Five Towns on Long Island in New York gathered on Monday night to show appreciation for their Rabbi, Rabbi Zalman Wolowik.
Hosted in his home, locals sat down for a Chassidic Farbrengen which included raising a L’chaim in honor of the Chabad Shliach’s 50th birthday.
Rabbi Wolowik addressed the purpose of a farbrengen for one’s birthday and told heartfelt stories of the Rabbeim and chassidim.
Joining them was Rabbi Wolowik’s father-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, Chabad’s central education and outreach organization.
Rabbi Kotlarsky had just returned from California, where he visited Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, founding director of Chabad of Poway, who was injured in the shooting attack at his center on the final day of Pesach.
Rabbi Kotlarsky recounted the tragic events in Poway and the resolve and deep faith shown by Rabbi Goldstein during their meeting which occurred shortly after he underwent surgery.
