United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney and his cabinet ministers were officially sworn in as Alberta’s new government in Canada on Tuesday, April 30.
Kenney became the province’s 18th premier following a ceremony at Government House in Edmonton.
Kenney’s UCP defeated the New Democrats in the provincial election April 16 when the party won 63 seats to the NDP’s 24.
Invited to present the invocation at the ceremony was Rabbi Menachem Matusof, Head Shliach and Director of Chabad in Alberta. He presented a tzedaka box to Kenney and urged him to start each day with charity.
In fact, Rabbi Matusof didn’t want to even wait for the next morning, and had the premier drop in a coin on the spot before continuing his remarks.
