Your heading is about being late, but the article begins with the subject of kollel. I am referring to kollel for seniors, which right now exists in a small space with shiurim only, for about 2 hours daily. We need more, far more than is available here in Crown Heights. Not all seniors can keep to a time schedule. Many have hearing and/or vision problems, so listening to a speaker may not be practical, memory issues may mean learning only what they have been learning, and reviewing halachah pertaining to time of year. …excellent idea for the expanded Kollel. It can be nurtured into greater things: adding a pick up service (with volunteers); a warm meal (with volunteer women fulfilling the role of facilitating Torah learning); volunteer callers to solicit participants or encourage those falling off (with the bonus of elderly receiving a phone call of inquiry as to their health)… There are an abundance of vacant store properties (especially on Nostrand and particularly across EP) begging for renters (maybe someone will donate use of space (tax deduction). Seeing that contemporary Lubavitch is primarily built/expanded by entrepreneurs, this could be an excellent project… Read more »
