Family and friends of Rabbi Shmuel Benjamin OBM gathered at the Jewish Children’s Museum Thursday for an event marking his first Yartzeit.
Rabbi Benjamin was remembered as a beloved and devoted educator who impacted many during his lifetime. Speakers included Rabbi Levi Garelik, Rabbi Dovid Sholom Pape, Rabbi Efraim Mintz, Rabbi Yossi Garelik and Rabbi Yosef Katzman.
Rabbi Benjamin served as a devoted Mechanech of Oholei Torah Pre 1A for 25 years, educating hundreds of students and instilling love of yiddishkeit and yiras shamayim. He passed away after an illness at the age of 57.
Friends and colleagues of Rabbi Benjamin recalled his warmth, love and kindness to all he met, and his care for his students long after they were in his class. He was known for his constant smile and kind word for all.
Rabbi Benjamín is also remembered for his encouragement and full support of his wife, Devorah Benjamin, as they founded and together ran Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kalla, an organization that provides necessary funds and support for Chassanim and Kallahs.

An amazing man, such an example to all.
May his memory forever be a blessing and inspiration
I’m sorry I didn’t know about the event. Two wonderful people and their children. May the family have great simchas
