The streets of Washington, DC, were illuminated in a historic parade in honor of Chanukah on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 26.
Dozens of cars of all types were adorned with menorahs on their roofs as the parade made its way through the Nation’s Capital via Connecticut, Independence and Constitution Avenues, escorted by a squad of police vehicles present to help ensure the smooth operation of the parade and the security of its participants.
The parade passed some important locations such as the World War Two Memorial, The White House – where the procession paused for a Stage of Honor at the National Menorah – the Washington Monument, the Department of the Treasury, the US Capitol, the US Supreme Court, and other Washington, DC, landmarks.
Organizers led by Rabbi Menachem Shemtov of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad) were delighted to establish the “National Menorah Unity Parade”, promising a much larger and expanded capacity next year.
Notable participants included Hon. Eric Fingerhut, President of the Jewish Federations of North America, and a convoy of vehicles from the Ohev Sholom Congregation, headed by Rabbi Shmuel Hertzfeld.
Special thanks to the team led by Lt. Brett Parson of the Metropolitan Police Department, and its Special Liaison Unit, for their support and cooperation.
A kiddish Hashem!
