The first ever Menorah lighting was held at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel, the 1.6-mile long highway tunnel that runs beneath the Hudson River, connecting New York City to Jersey City, New Jersey.
The Menorah was installed through the efforts of the Bris Avrohom organization, Chabad Air, NYPD 71st Precinct and the Port Authority. The Menorah stands proudly at the entrance to the tunnel, creating pirsumei nissa to the hundreds of thousands who drive by daily.
The Menorah was lit in a ceremony attended by Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky of Bris Avrohom, Rabbi Yossi Rapp of Chabad Air, Rabbi Shmuly Butler, Deputy Inspector Thomas Smith – Commanding Officer and Sergeant Mike Baratta of tbe 71st Precinct in Crown Heights.
