Coming soon: 770 of Texas.
The new Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Life Center in the west side of El Paso will channel Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
The 10,000-square-foot building will include a sanctuary, social hall, two commercial kitchens, a Jewish library, administrative offices, and a conference room.
A building campaign for the new center has begun in 2013 under the title “Building the Future,” with dedication opportunities still available.
“It is the enthusiasm and the vision of friends and admirers of the work of Chabad that has made it possible for this new project to take shape,” said Rabbi Yisroel Greenberg, head of Chabad of El Paso with his wife Chana.
The couple arrived on Shlichus sent by the Rebbe in 1986 and have been serving as spiritual leaders in the community for over three decades, a local newspaper reported.
A few years ago they have been joined been by their son Rabbi Levi Greenberg and his wife Shainy who serve as youth and programs directors.
What will be most unique about the building will be its facade, a replica of the iconic triple-arched red-brick building that has been the nerve center of Chabad in the US and around the globe.
Lubavitch Chassidim attach great significance to everything that played a role in the Rebbe’s life; therefore, Chassidim all over the world have built replicas or near-replicas of the building.
Replicas were built in Kfar Chabad and Jerusalem in Israel, Milan, 2 in Los Angeles, New Jersey, Melbourne, S. Paolo in Brazil, Argentina and Ukraine. This will be the first such building in the state of Texas.
The Rebbe initiated the 770 replica in the Kfar!
