The annual AIPAC conference in Washington, DC, will not be taking place next year, the organization’s President Betsy Berns Korn announced on Sunday.
“Given the continued uncertainties created by the Covid-19 pandemic, and without a predictable avenue to safely bring together thousands of pro-Israel Americans, we have been forced to cancel,” she said.
The policy conference, the largest pro-Israel policy gathering in North America, was scheduled for March 2021. Many Chabad Shluchim from around the country attend it together with members of their communities.
Addressing the conference every year are elected officials from both Republican and Democratic parties, as well as representatives of Israel’s government.
Berns Korn alerted that “as America heads toward Election Day, we must continue to build pro-Israel political relationships and work to elect a pro-Israel Congress.”
“The impact of Covid-19 will make this a different and challenging year,” she said. “But we are confident that the AIPAC community will continue to overcome any obstacle and rise to the occasion.”
As reported on COLlive.com, at least 3 attendees of the AIPAC Policy Conference that took place on February 28 to March 2, 2020 have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The axios website reported that “the cancellation of the event, set to take a place a full year after the pandemic was declared, illustrates the long-lasting effects COVID-19 could have on large gatherings.”
