The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Friday that vaccine providers should resume their use of the Johnson and Johnson jab — after the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended it was safe to do so, NY Post.
The CDC and the FDA said J&J’s one-dose shot should be made available again at vaccine sites after reviewing data showing it will help save lives and prevent hospitalizations despite the risk of extremely rare — but potentially deadly — blood clots.
The chance of clots occurring is “very low,” Janet Woodcock, Acting FDA Commissioner, said at a press conference Friday night.
The rate of cases is 1.9 per one million vaccinated overall, officials said.
The White House said earlier Friday they have nine million doses of the vaccine ready to go as soon as the CDC and FDA give the green light, CNN reported.
New York City will resume using the J&J vaccine immediately, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Saturday.
This is only possible because CDC owns 15% in stocks of J&J.

The Janssen vaccine was not taken off the market because of six instances of blood clots out of the six million doses given. I know this for two reasons: a) The clots only affected women, so they should have only stopped administering the vaccine to women, and b) one fatality out of every million doses is not enough to justify taking a vaccine off the market, especially when the virus the vaccine prevents kills between one and two people of two hundred infected. To any doctor who recommends this vaccine to people under 65 – who is paying your salary? What would the consequences be for you if you questioned the safety of this vaccine for people with a COVID death rate of zero? You are recommending this to 16 year olds? Pregnant frum women? What are you gaining?
