On a chilly Thursday winter night, the Montreal Chabad community joined forces with the COLlive community for a heartfelt Farbrengen, commemorating the 24th of Teves, the Hilullah of the Alter Rebbe, and remembering the legendary Mashpia and Kabbalist Reb Volf Greenglass OBM at his 13th Yahrtzeit.
Amidst recitations of Tehilim for Eretz Israel, charity boxes graced the tables, echoing the Rebbe’s desire for every gathering to encompass Torah, prayer, and charity. Despite the impending Shabbos preparations on Friday, the turnout was remarkable, with over 500 in-person attendees and nearly 1,000 online viewers.
Organized by Rabbi David Cohen, Shliach of the Rebbe in Montreal, the event featured Rabbi Nissen Mangel as the keynote speaker, captivating both the present audience and those watching online. The evening unfolded with tales of the Rebbe’s open prayers for Rabbi Greenglass’s family, highlighting the transformative mission of the Alter Rebbe to turn a cold soul into a fiery torch.
The second part of the evening brought a cascade of Chabad stories, spanning from the Bal Shem Tov to Reb Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, the Arizal, and Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. Even when the technicians pulled the plugs, the Farbrengen persisted as people huddled around Rabbi Mangel.
The night saw the launch of a new book, “The Mashpia,” by Rabbi Greenglass, with endorsements from prominent figures like Rabbi Michael Halperin, Rabbi Shmuel Lew, Rabbi David Banon, Rabbi YY Jacobson, and Rabbi Mangel himself. To pre-order the book, visit www.Rebwolf.com.
The beautiful and inspiring evening ended with the hope that the blessings from the Alter Rebbe will abundantly shower upon everyone. For those wishing to relive the moments, please watch the replay below.
