Thank you for the opportunity to help! And yes, your exactly right, this topic of mental health should be mainstream and love and acceptance must be felt and given by all especially in the Chabad community that invented “No Jew Left Behind!” May your beautiful children have an immediate and permanent refuah shlaimeh and yeshuos, bgashmius and bruchnias and for all who need it! Only revealed good to you and your family, nachas, and all the brochos of the Avos and Imahos now and forever!

Great reason to give

Short term solution

A hospital will deal with immediate danger for the short term, then discharge them. Hospitals don’t provide long term, real help. If there is no support for them outside of the hospital to get proper therapy, the cycle of going in and out of the hospital just continues. Also, hospitals mostly just medicate to stabilize the immediate crisis. Much more help is needed for long term help, and the right professional can be extremely expensive. Also, more likely than not, that professional doesn’t accept Medicaid, or often any insurance. People fortunately often don’t get the help they need because they… Read more »

Why can’t they go to any public mental hospital in Brooklyn? They can’t refuse you if you can’t pay. This is clearly a life and death Gd forbid situation. Even if you get a bill after, somehow Gd will help you deal with it. Right now these children are in serious life threatening situations. Why aren’t you going to any public mental hospital in Brooklyn? Because you can’t pay up front? If you children Gd forbid were both physically dying in front of you, would you let them die because you don’t have the money to pay up front? It’s… Read more »

Most ppl that are struggling are not willing to get help and that’s the main issue, hashem should help

These hospitals don't really help

We all know that these hospitals won’t help. They’ll help just temporarily to make sure the person stays alive. They don’t have the best doctors to truly help someone. To really help someone with their mental health, you need really good therapists, doctors, professionals to help. Healing the brain is so complicated and the lowest quality doctors are not capable. So yes, a tremendous amount of money is needed to truly heal someone because the good doctors out there cost a fortune.

Just like we don’t go to just any public hospital or Medicaid Dr. when we have serious health issues chas veshalom someone struggling with a Mental Illness should be able to get the same quality care.

You are very fortunate not to have this kind of experience. To be hospitalized, you need to present active, clear, verifiable danger to yourself or others. The moment you feeling better, 3 days give or take, you are out. Besides, I hope you did not see insides of those places. It’s only an absolute last resort to save someone’s life in that moment. But the next moment you are on your own again. So. A lot of money is needed even for most basic mental health issue.

Interboro and ODA accept medicare and have Jewish therapists. They also have psychiatrists on the staff. There are many clinics that accept medicare.

I’m glad it worked for you, but last time I checked, it was at least 6 months wait. And, without knowing this specific situation, it’s hard to tell if it will work for them.

I was suicidal and hospitalized for three months. Shock therapy helped, medications helped. I didn’t have medicaid and was taken in. Holliswood hospital in queens is excellent. Don’t think about the money now. First save the children. I used to hear suicide inside my head. It wouldn’t go away. Imagine hearing that fifty times in a row. It’s hell from a different dimension.

Happy to hear you are well

Sorry to hear you went through this and I’m glad to hear that certain treatments and methods worked for you.

It is true that each person’s problems are so individualized and a personal treatment plan is necessary

Keeping it all anonymous
February 13, 2023 7:01 pm

In order to protect the family’s anonymity, I’m sure that many of the details have been changed. So we can’t give advice because we really don’t know any details.
We just need to try to help this family to achieve the best results possible.
We can rely on the Rabonim that this family needs our help and not try to criticize what they’re doing or figure out what they should do.
However, it could be helpful to list organizations and other sources of assistance for other readers.
Hatzlacha to all who deal with any challenges!!

This is scary. Educate young kids

Please, Go to all local schools/yeshivas to bat and bar mitzvah age &up and give mandatory lessons on how opioids are dangerous, how OD looks, we have more & more kids who are struggle on a daily basis and lost here in CH, either the family not functioning or child is acting out or both. Refua Shleima to this family

My two cents
March 7, 2023 9:20 am

Sending someone to a mental hospital is a very drastic thing, only for very extreme situations. People involved should be only those who know the situation very personally and very well before coming to such a conclusion. I’m sure those involved with this case are aware of all the options, and do not deem it necessary. It is something that can be terrible for a family and very traumatic for the children and should be avoided at all costs if possible. Apparently many of you do not understand these things and are unaware that real psychiatric care is extremely expensive… Read more »
