In time for the Tishrei month of Jewish holidays, hundreds of Jewish families in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood received food staples – for free.
The food was given out from trucks parked in front of the home of Mrs. Devorah Scheiner who runs the Yom Tov Fund to help the needy and the disadvantaged in the community.
Hundreds of boxes of chicken, fish, cheeses and other foods were distributed in an organized fashion by Scheiner and a group of volunteers.
A full breakfast was spread out to welcome those who waited, and many expressed their gratitude for what will now be a joyous holiday for their families.
“We spend sleepless nights worrying about the poor and needy in our community,” said Mrs. Scheiner, who works tirelessly all year to cover expenses for the fund. “We are glad that we are able to help the people and we ask the public to help cover the costs.”
The distribution was dedicated to Rabbi Kuti Rapp, of blessed memory.
