Mayor Eric Adams is dropping out of New York City’s mayoral race amid escalating pressure to clear the crowded field in a last-ditch attempt to stop socialist Zohran Mamdani’s election to City Hall, the NY Post reported.
The bombshell move comes after weeks of back-and-forth over whether Adams would bow out of the race, in which he is polling fourth, far behind frontrunner Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and also, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
“It’s been an honor to be your mayor,” Adams said in a video announcement, according to a transcript obtained by The Post, touting his victories over his first term — which include bringing crime down, building housing and dealing with the city’s brutal migrant crisis.
“Although our successes… I know I cannot continue my campaign,” he says in the video.
“I want to be clear, although this is the end of my campaign, this will not be the end of my public service,” he said.
“I will keep fighting for our city no matter what because I am a New Yorker.”
Only in America. Only in New York.
Thank you for making my story a reality. pic.twitter.com/efHuyBnITJ— Eric Adams (@ericadamsfornyc) September 28, 2025

We know that Sliva can’t win what we do now ?
I liked him as mayor. And he made the right move.
Cuomo is not a nice human being, but sometimes one must pick an unsavory option in order to avoid a poison. And Mamdani is a poison. Good that Adams was able to make the self sacrificing move necessary to try to stop Mamdani. Now it is Sliwa’s turn.
Are we going to ignore the fact that 5 different of our very own Crown Heights community leaders both male and female Askonim have real connections with Adams and pull with the Adams administration. Why aren’t the 5 CH Leaders, and the about 25 CH Activists & machers that are associated with those different leaders using every and any connection and brownie points that they have to get Adams to shut down some of the many CH city funded Homeless shelter projects, bike lanes (to stop the bike lanes & rip up the proposal not “pause” it so Mamdani can… Read more »
The homeless Projects are the result of the project that was drafted by former NYS Assembly women Diana Richardson so it has nothing to do with the Adams administration. Also, it looks like the State added on to this project in terms of the number of units and stories and so if you want to advocate about this you need to go to your current NYS Assemblyman, Brian Cunningham and your NYS Senator Zellnor Myrie. They were both asked by a number of community members from Crown Heights to revisit this and ask the Attorney General to review the Enviornmental… Read more »
Part of the funding for the Mega homeless shelter in south CH was approved by the Adams administration under the NYC Department Of Homeless Services. So although the state is involved in this project, NYC under Adams played a big role in getting it approved by offering to pay for large amount of the operating costs.
So Adams is equally to blame, and the next Mayor can remove the NYC funding which would stall the Homeless shelter project by many years.
Brooklyn Jewish Republican Committee
This means we can all unite behind Cuomo so he beats that nasty antisemite. He’s the only one who stands a chance.
Cuomo was not our friend. He also was responsible for hundreds of deaths in old age homes.
Sliwa is better for Israel and Am Yisrael and NYC. He’s not fir handing out free money, but he is for keeping NY safe.
He lost to Mamdani already in the primary. Vote Sliwa!!
Moderate Republicans with Seichel (who couldn’t vote in the Dem primaries) will vote for Cuomo knowing that Sliwa doesn’t stand a chance.
Who says Sliwa doesn’t have a chance? Is it from the false polls or from Cuomo’s supporters rumors?
Thank you Mr. Mayor.
Thank you for service for 4 years with dignity and respect.
Thank you for stepping aside in these turbulent times.
We will be honored that you continue to serve NYC.
Who are you voting for and why?
And Sliwa can win
too Little Too Late
Thank you for being a true friend!!
Get out a vote for sliwa!
great news, now we have some chance of beating mamdani.
Adams could have taken sooooo many votes from Mamdani. People really like him because he is a good public servant and a good person. I took a poll among hard brooklynites and found out that people were planning on voting on Adams, do not forgive Cuomo (covid nursing home laws and all sorts of awful things) and… my unofficial poll was the first time they were ever asked! Let’s do all we can to reveal Moshiach and the Geulah.
so now we have a choice of 3 jew haters, great
Coumo may say things to side with different groups because hes a politician but I have a feeling hes not an antisemite.
A man who knows how to respect their parents, is a value based person.
I truly respect this man
…probably after a strong hand from President Trump!
He accepted the guidance, maybe had a chance to reflect, maybe saw something in the video… we don’t know… to be able to be in a position to be the most helpful. Eric Adams is a true man of faith rather than personal ego.
Everyone who is upset please understand.
If the lowest scoring in the polls candidate will not drop out right now, Mamdani is the next mayor for sure.
Adams once again proves he is real mensch, thank you so much for the 4 years and manly decision.
Silwa, please follow the same, we all know you are the mensch too.
I’ve been taking a poll since i heard the news. People had been planning on voting for Adams, AND, I’m the first person who asked them. They hadn’t been polled.
Out of all the politicians who have gone to visit the Ohel and have also expressed their support for the Jewish community, I believe that Mr Adams has been the most sincere and trustworthy! It’s just the kind of person that he is.
Now that a door has closed for him, hopefully a better one will open up for him. Good luck to you Mayor Adams! Our community will always remember and appreciate the warm relationship which we have always had with you. You are a real mentsch!
Thank you Mayor Adams.
You were and are truly a good friend. we love you!
You did your best as Mayor while having to deal with powerful people who tried to destroy you because you did not fall in line with their agenda.
May G-d bless you for future success!
Literally noone else in the entire nyc can run for mayor?!
New Yorkers know that mamdani is the right choice and he will win big, time to get out and vote and let billionaires know that they can’t buy New York City
I mean, socialism has been a failure everywhere it’s been tried, it’s got an eight-figure body count, but sure, this time it’s got to work, right?
Of course bc thiiiis time mr slimy head is talking extra super duper nice and he actually will care for the peoples struggle. Pretty please I promise. Not
Mamdani is a figure head
Talks nice but doesn’t have a clue.
The people behind his autopen are the billionaires salivating to rob whatever you blind and take whatever little you still have left to call your own.
You will eat bugs own nothing and be happy
Oh and forget about air conditioning on those sweltering hot days bc climate ya know
People are voting for mamdani thinking they’ll get out of poverty, they couldn’t be more wrong! Thy dont know any better theyre being swayed beacuse theyre sick of the corrupt billionaires but they dont realize mamdani is one of the millionaires with a different style
We look at the polls. If they show Sliwa advance big, we stick with him. Conversely, if he stays low, we back Cuomo. Hamodia ad from my counterpart in Borough Park, Reb Nachman Caller, Jewish outreach chairman of the County Committee, already supports Cuomo. The name of the game is Defeat Mamzerani, and this should docheh any considerations. This is a Jihad, and war is war. The late Mayoral Candidate Badillo once told the Rebbe that he runs to provide Jews with the “good life”. The Rebbe’s reply, NO. We seek SURVIVAL. I expect Mamdani-hired spoilers to attack this message.… Read more »
Maybe pray that polls reflect reality
He was the only normal candidate. I’m for sure not voting for mamdani, and also not for coumo who is a big liar and had no problem blaming his covid failures on Chassidic jews, and closed all the Frum neighborhoods, and silwa is a wac job who doesn’t care for frum jews either, and either way has no chance. I guess we’ll leave it all up to Hashem who will win.
And now voting for Sliwa.
if sliwa drops out i wont vote. not voting for an anti semite pervert corrupt guy
I also won’t vote for Cuomo. You’d be amazed how many people won’t. I don’t think Sliwa is dropping out. But if he did, and for any office if you don’t like who is in the ballot, put any name… it will give the rasha a lower percentage. Also, there will still be people on the ballot who dropped out since the ballot was made. Adams’ name would be on it but it wouldn’t count to vote for him but it would be less vote for someone not good, but also less vote for evreryone. But it’s really important to… Read more »
Was planning to vote for Eric Adams regardless of whether or not his poll numbers were or weren’t low. I feel it would have been simple hakoras hatov to do so. Mayor Adams was a sincere friend of the community and has been supportive of us in many ways, including acceptance of our chinuch system and support for the police department. I would have voted for him just as a gesture of thanks, whether or not his polling numbers were up or down. I don’t know what The Aibershtehr has in mind for this city or for Mayor Adams, but… Read more »
