Rabbi Yitzchok and Rebbetzin Tzipporah Sufrin of Enfield & Winchmore Hill synagogue, in London, UK brought the Sukkot experience to members’ homes with a mobile sukkah courtesy of Chabad Lubavitch brothers Mendel and Meir Sudak who enthusiastically enriched the sukkah encounter.
The visit was greeted excitedly by the members at their homes and at one particular venue as many as five unscheduled neighbors ran forward joyfully to have the opportunity of entering the sukkah.
One person at a time performed the mitzvah in compliance with social distancing.
One young non-Jewish student from a local school together with his mother who were passing by the mobile Sukkah were delighted to relate that the children in the school were informed about the practices of Sukkot.
This echoed several visits made in recent years by the school to the shul when they showed impressive respect and knowledge of Jewish practice and observance.
Summing up the thoughts of many, one member of Chabad of Enfield said:
“It was wonderful that our Rabbi and Rebbetzin organized a mobile sukkah to enable members to meet each other safely to recite the proper blessings and experience, albeit fleetingly, the mitzvah of Sukkot despite this pernicious pandemic which has unfortunately placed Enfield Synagogue into a total lockdown since March.”
