Family, friends and community members gathered for an emotional event marking the Shloshim of Mrs. Razel Wolvovsky obm.
Held at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights and streamed live around the world, the event celebrated and honored the beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and friend to many.
Razel was remembered by the speakers as a woman who exuded love, joy and great pride in yiddishkeit, Chassidishekeit, her children, her students, and all she came in contact with.
Renowned lecturer Rabbi YY Jacobson told a personal anecdote of how Razel encouraged him to give Shiurim, very early in his career as a lecturer.
“Mrs. Wolvovsky was the ultimate ‘farginer,'” said Rabbi Jacobson. “She didn’t only tolerate others’ successes – she celebrated it. Because she was humble and confident…she loved when other people shined.”
Her daughter, Mrs. Batya Rosenblum, served as the evening MC and introduced her granddaughter Mirel Mintz, daughter-in-law Mrs. Yehudis Wolvovsky, sister-in-law Mrs. Chana Wilhelm, nephew Rabbi Mendel Wilhelm, friend Mrs. Ella Lerman and daughter Mrs. Mushky Gurevitch.
Each one described in turn Razel’s deep love and dedication to her family, her joy in imparting lessons to her students and the countless people who were touched by her extended reach.
The event concluded with a call to action by Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky, who announced the launch of the new Razel Wolvovsky Charitable Foundation, which has been established in memory of Razel, to continue her legacy.
The fund is being launched starting with an initial $66,000, in honor of Razel’s 66 years of life, and will assist people in areas which Razel was particularly passionate about: Chassidishe Chinuch, assisting young couples and helping those who are ill and infirmed.
