Dear Friend,
21 months ago my wife and I opened The Beis Medrash, a Torah learning center in Crown Heights offering men and bochurim a bright and comfortable place to learn, farbreng and gain a feeling of camaraderie. Encouraged by the success of TBM for men, my wife Chanel and Mrs. Dvora Lakein launched The Women’s Circle which was met with enthusiasm by the women of Crown Heights- a clear indication that it is filling a real need. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. Of course we owe it all to the generosity of so many who make it possible.
Last week, we circulated an email in which we shared an “open book” of our accomplishments and expenses over the past 21 months as well as our urgent and future goals and the funds required to support them. View here. http://www.thebeismedrash.com/blog/ We also clarified our desire to keep TBM’s doors open at 580 Crown (as opposed to relocating); and that we’d need financial commitments in order to accomplish this.
Our email was met with enthusiasm and tremendous generosity by many dedicated TBM regulars as well as the community at large. But we are still in need of $759 in monthly commitments for fixed expenses (see breakdown for details). We have only a few days until we have to decide whether we can sign a two- year lease for the space at 580 Crown, or not. Let’s make this happen!
I am asking for your help:
Would you consider a monthly contribution to support this worthy cause? I assure you that your contribution will bring you nachas- you need not look far! Simply step into TBM any weeknight and feel the energy as a room full of men of all ages sit and learn Torah.
Yesterday’s Hayom Yom could not be more applicable:
“אלע אידישע עלטערן וועלכע באדארפען האבען א ספעציעלע ישועה און הצלה פאר זייערע קינדער, איז דער זיכערסטער מיטעל צו שטיצען תורה לערנער” –היום יום ט’ תמוז
The greatest guaranteed assurance (of Divine assistance) for all Jewish parents in need of special help and deliverance for their children is through their support of those who study Torah.

UPDATE (Monday, 3:37 PM):
Since posting this above letter last night on COLlive.com about The Beis Medrash (TBM) in Crown Heights and its financial situation, there has been immediate progress.
Rabbi Lipskier just got a call from Yerachmeal Jacobson, a real estate executive and owner of Bluejay Management LLC. “We saw the article on COLlive,” Jacobson opened the conversation.
“The Beis Medrash is a tremendous asset to our community and we’d like to make a dent in the fundraising goal, especially considering that it is Yud Beis Tammuz- an opportune time to strengthen Torah study,” the Crown Heights resident said.
Jacobson and his wife Rivka Leah are offering to match donations received in the next 24 hours up to $5,000. With the monthly deficit at $9,481, Jacobsons’ goal of raising $10,000 will cover a complete month at the Beis Medrash.
“I am very grateful to the Jacobsons for this show of support – on behalf of all the people who are throwing themselves into this project with passion and enthusiasm to make The Beis Medrash survive and thrive,” said Rabbi Lipskier.
In order to meet Jacobsons’ offer, the Beis Medrash needs to raise $4,098 by Tuesday afternoon ($902 was donated since last night). Every donation counts, no matter how small, Lipskier says.

Did he raise the cash ?
To #19 i could not have said it any better, Giving to TBM you are making a place for yourself where you can come and learn etc. To #20 the schools have to put in more effort to show that they are doing or giving to the children what they really need, not just be baby sitters for the parents, as I had with my son, he was a very good student but the school did not motivate him because he was learning regardless, so he has knowledge but that’s it he could have been an illue. but B’H HE… Read more »
I will try to make a monthly pledge .this is a great org.
how about feeding your children w your foodstamps!!! if you dont need them stop stealing from the gov and my taxes!
From someone who runs a Mossad in crownheights I’ve come many times over the years to the jacobson’s house and I’ve always left happy b”h.may u go from strengh to strengh.
If you think that they’re home free now, you’ve gotta learn a thing or two about fundraising
Location Location Location, they’re in a great spot
Rabbi Motty announced at the meeting last Sunday that he’s opening an account at a gocrey store. I suggest you contact him
Yerachmiel is a true hatzne leches and איש החסד
He does many acts of Chesed with no request for the spotlight
May he be blessed with much hatzlacha
The location makes it much more accesable to people.
Thank you Yerachmiel Jacobson – what a generous offer you have made!
Since everyone mentioned that they shudder look for cheaper place maybe they shud use part of darchei menachem, it will strengthen the up and coming part of crown heights, wud b cheaper, and giv some money to a yeshiva which a jacobson is involved in already.
Nice to see business and Torah come together .
Yerachmiel Jacobson seems like a real aidel person (as I dont know him personally) and I know that he does a tremendous amount of chesed. here’s to you Yerachmiel!
The Kolel in 770 Kfar Chabad is an example of FREE STUDY…..and get pay……
Everyone who can should give .torah institutions are very important to our comunity .thank u mr. Jacobson for giving this very important Mossad the chalange to get them through.
To number 27: If you love the Beis Medrosh so much, why don’t you donate?
It is my understanding that very few owners at 580 (with a couple of notable exceptions), donate to the Beis Medrosh.
Yerachmeal was there for me many times for my children tution .thanks
Can I donate food stamps??
I can tell you that all the tenants appreciate having this moisud downstairs. If Drizin ever returns to renting it out for simchas, we will not stand for it.
I for one and happy to put in a call, sign my name on a petition or wahtever to make this clear.
He should cut the costs of rent for the beis hamedrash because that is what we all want! It’s the greatest thing for the condos.
Thank u yerachmeal.
may g-d bless u and your family with only good
My husband davens there regularly & joins in the activities when he can. He co-sponsors events, sometimes for a yarzheit which is something many people R”L can do, he has donated sefarim and he is very impressed with the work of Rabbi Lipskier. He committed to a monthly support. If every family gives at least $54 a month they can keep going & expand their programs. All those who go either to minyanim or programs should make a commitment – don’t just take, give as well! #To #18 & 11, they are looking at different options & thinking outside the… Read more »
If people would only donate like this to our yeshivos
no ohel nosson pays rent for shabbos and yom tov
Wouldn’t rent be cheaper somewhere else or maybe they should think of buying which might save some money
Does this mean Ohel Nosson is closing down?
Halevei the schools in crown heights would get as much support as this organisation.
when we support TBM we are giving a gift to ourselves
not to Rabbi Motty Lipskier, but to ourselves
nobody is putting down the rabbi or his programs
but he should look for ways to trim down the costs if he is asking for public funds
i myself am a regular attendee of the womens circle. it is run like a true chabad house. it is so much appreciated by me and has made a tremendous positive difference to me personally. it is an open ,positive atmosphere where true chizuk takes place in areal way! this is definitely life giving to our community and we must support it , so that the beautiful programs can go on from strenth to strength. a special yasher koach to chanel and devora and all the giving women who share so freely with all their abilities. this must succeed!
This is one of the most worthy institutions in Crown Heights. A place for baalei batim as well as bochurim to come every night and learn. This is our lifeline! We must keep it going!
I just commited to start giving $36 per month. Keep up the good work Rabbi Motti!
the saying goes if you have nothing good to say dont say it!! just open your walletts and give every bit counts for this heilge mosad. please
yes He is Rabbi Fitzy’s son
rent price is under market value for this size/ location
They are doing amazing work! Very important cause to support even if you can only give a little- it all adds up.
Hatzlacha
Finally a young couple who, instead of bemoaning the spiritual state of Crown Heights, is doing something about it! After decades of seeing our best and brightest give their kochos to communities around the globe (with great success) we are finally seeing similarly motivated, idealistic people giving their kochos back to their own communities and lighting up Crown Heights, turning it back into the beacon of light that we should be. I wish I could support this endeavor financially but since I don’t have the means at least I can offer moral support. Keep up your great work!!! Yashar koach!… Read more »
I love having the learning going on at 580, and therefore have agreed to contribute on a monthly basis. Having just reviewed the budget, there might be ways to trim some of the expenses to keep it going.
is this Rabbi Lipskier a son of Rabbi ‘Fitzy’ Lipskier zatzal who was a magid shiur in Morristown?
How many men are now learning daily (or several days a week) who were not before? Rabbi Lipskier makes the information understandable and accessible to everyone. The Beis Medrash is a comfortable torah-true environment. Considering the way large chunks of our community seem to be heading, the continuation of the Beis Medrash could not be more important. I strong encourage everyone to contribute. I plan to increase my monthly contribution.
Best of luck, Lipskiers!
In my opinion, the huge success of the beis medrash IS their location; it’s new, big, bright and so central! Perhaps the landlord should understand the value of it and give them a break… but that’s his prerogative….
Why not ways to lower the expenses, like find a free or cheaper place,
no guest maggid shiurim unless they are sponsored, and so on, this way at least we will have something instead of nothing
You can do it!Persevere…!
I am one of those who makes a monthly installment…whoever is able should do the same it is for a great cause!
Don’t give up, you are needed and Heshem helps and continues to help. with בטחון you will succeed אי”ה.
How much do you need? and what if I can only give a little?
the rent is too high, he needs to get it at a discounted rate or find a cheaper place if he wants people to help him pay for it.
