The news about the passing of R’ Herschel Scheiner, who was involved in chesed for orphans in the former Soviet Union and for families in need in Crown Heights, was received with deep sadness.
At 80, he was infected with coronavirus and passed away on Sunday, leaving over children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in mourning.
The passing also cast a shadow over the Pesach food distribution led by his wife, Devorah Scheiner as part of her Yomtov Fund which distributes fresh fish, poultry and other staples before Pesach, Tishrei and on other occasions.
With the funeral postponed to Monday, a team of volunteers and staff of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC) stepped in and lent a hand to ensure that those in need are fed for Pesach.
Hundreds of families received chicken, fish and other basics for Pesach, in a distribution that was conducted safely and without crowding.
To support this effort, send a check to: Devorah Scheiner’s Yom Tov Fund, 519 Lefferts Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225 or donate online at http://chcentral.org/donate (All donations are tax-deductible).
