Who is he trying to please?
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Sunday that he will be shifting funds away from the New York Police Departement which he connected to the aftermath of days of protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“The details will be worked out in the budget process in the weeks ahead. But I want people to understand that we are committed to shifting resources to ensure that the focus is on our young people,” de Blasio said. “I also will affirm we will only do it in a way that is certain to continue the city will be safe.”
The New York Times reported that “the mayor made his pledge following 10 nights of mass protests against police violence and mounting demands for an overhaul of the police department.”
Last week, de Blasio was booed off stage at a George Floyd rally in Brooklyn.
“I hope he’s not trying to make it seem as if that was his calling,” Anthony Beckford, president of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn, told the Times. They have called for at least $1 billion to be cut from the police department. “That was basically one of our major demands, one of many.”
“I am strongly opposed to defunding NYPD,” Yaacov Behrman, Director of the Brooklyn-based Jewish Future Alliance, said in response.
“I find the rhetoric against NYPD deeply problematic. There are men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day to protect this city. Fire dirty cops and hold them accountable but don’t you dare cause harm to the good ones,” he said.

What a mishugener! Who voted him in?
Anyone who didn’t bother voting in 2013 or 2017 voted him in.
I have been following the events On The British News of what has occurred In New York, and it is disgraceful how the mayor is only chastising the police officers and not the rowdy protesters who caused unimaginable damage on manhattan,
it is disgusting and downright cowardly not to pursue the hundreds of people who have looted and stole and caused incredibly financial emotional and physical damage.
Police officers have been abusing the system for YEARS….if they would have behaved themselves we would never would have had a George floyd story/aka protests etc… first fix the problem on top (police) and then we’ll talk further if need be.
It’s shameful and disgraceful to attack police as a whole. Of there are few bad apples, they should be dealt with. Without the police, are streets and society won’t function. As CH residents, it’s unthinkable to imagine what will hurting the police will do to us
Not to mention caused physical injury to others.
If DeBlasio is serious, he first has to get such a change through the City Council. Does anyone REALLY think that any town, county, city, state or other entity will COMPLETELY defund its police (other than through merger with another police force, which doesn’t count here)? This is just yet another photo op. The police already has programs targeted to minority communities, and this token shift is NOT “DEFUNDING” the NYPD. It’s likely moving one such program to another city agency that didn’t handle that NYPD-based program in the past. I agree with Yaakov Behrman, that the mayor’s rhetoric here… Read more »
May Moshiach come in an easy way!
The police must be defunded if we want criminals to be treated fairly. Everyone needs to make a living including criminals. We need to embrace the criminals as part of our city and stop harassing them with police and laws. Justice applies to everyone including criminals. We must support them and help them succeed.
To decide on his own and endanger the whole city by defunding the NYPD. Who gave him this right.there must be rules that he must follow too.
When a member of a group, such as Blacks, commit crimes, we cannot judge all of the group. But when members of another group, the police, commit crime, the whole group is judged.
This is definitely a sign of Moshiach – the leader has “the face of a dog” – following the crowd trying to lead him instead of being a leader.
When Diblasio won the election, Mike Savage warned, “This guy is a Sandinista.” See:

Now, this truth is coming to a head!
