Amidst dancing and singing, Rabbi Yisroel and Alizah Silberstein, the Shluchim to Chernigov, Ukraine, were greeted at Miami International Airport on Tuesday evening.
The Shluchim and their 9 children, who had been assisting and offering shelter in their home and Chabad Center to 35 community members during Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, fled from the city during the intense fighting.
After a grueling and dangerous journey, the family arrived in Miami today, with their children, including twins that are just seven months old.
When the bombs started falling, Alizah Silberstein knew she had to get out with her husband and children, but there were challenges. Finally, they found one road out.
They were able to get on the road, and after 50 hours they were able to reach Moldova.
After 5 days of travel with only one suitcase, they were finally met with joyous singing and dancing in Miami, Rabbi Silberstein transported in a wheelchair due to a recent surgery.
On hand to greet them were relatives, fellow Shluchim, and Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
