Porta Potty Help!?
August 19, 2025 9:11 pm

Can the organizers remove the Porta Potties or at least clean them each day? Kingston smelled like a sewer for most of Yom Tov, and it took some time for the smell to go away.

Yes, but HOW????!!!
August 19, 2025 9:19 pm

A VERY important issue. MUST be addressed…. You repeated what needs to happen. At least from what I can see…. you gave NO ideas HOW to do it.

Maybe a “rewrite” is necessary.

This past Purim night was also terrible. Gangs of Jewish youth from different neighborhoods were roaming the streets causing havoc

May I kindly make a sugestion? 1- NO VENDORS on kingston avenue. ZERO. No food, no lights, no Junk. 2- There needs to be some type of monitoring by the ladies section. Forget Tznius what if chas vesholom one of those guys going through touches a girl in the crowds? WHO is responsible. Last year there was a wild guy from outside holding a big Glenlivet in his hand drunk as anything, passing through the women. My wife told him to LEAVE. He said why should I? Honestly yes the vending is an issue but at the same time you have to look at the fact that it’s a main part of the experience it used to be nice with 5 to 10 vendors in a common organized fashion and now it became a zoo also these are mostly teenagers that have no way to make money throughout the entire year except for doing this so by trying to ban them from selling you’re actually ruining the yearly experience and what should really happen is the organizers of the event should work a select number of vendors… Read more »

Of course there have always been problems. I think that the writer’s point was that there is no reason to have it out in public, especially at an event that is (meant to be?) holy. The community should do something to keep the streets clean.

Vendors
August 19, 2025 9:52 pm

Vendors & Street Scene: Last year, vendors were set up on one block, away from the main dancing area. This gave more space, kept things organized, and created a healthy separation so the simcha stayed central. That same approach should be continued and reinforced.
Parents and community leaders should continue educating youth that drinking is only legal over age 21, and that drugs are never acceptable. Clear guidance and awareness help protect our children. Girls must be accompanied during night time and never alone

I’m not sure that as Lubavitchers our focus should be on the legal aspects of underage drinking L’chaim. Honestly, I doubt you would find any Mashpia who wouldn’t give Bochurim Mashke under 21.

What does need to be emphasized is the proper way to say L’chaim – like the appropriate setting, in time (Farbrengens or זמן שמחה) and amount (never more then for, never getting drunk) based on the Rebbes Gezeira.

I think this is a great way for stuff to happen but at the same time there’s too many vendors and it turns into a zoo and the prices are completely unaffordable I think the organizers should work with a select amount of vendors to sell food and toys at a affordable price and it should only be a certain amount of vendors so it doesn’t go crazy

Guidelines for Organizing a Simcha
August 19, 2025 9:55 pm

Vendors & Street Setup: Keep vendors grouped in one block, away from the main dancing area. This gives more space, reduces distractions, and ensures the simcha remains the center of attention. • Community Benefit: Structure the event so it can generate income (through vendor fees, sponsorships, etc.). This makes the whole setup more organized and sustainable. • Safety & Order: Hire professional security and cleaning crews, just as is done at other large events. This ensures a safe and clean environment for everyone. • Healthy Atmosphere: Remind families to guide their children — drinking should only be for those 21+,… Read more »

It’s like everywhere else that kids go, including the museum gift shops. Sit your kids down before taking them. Talk about what happens if they get lost, separated, or chas v’sholem inappropriately touched. Set a limit for goodies that they understand before heading out. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing but the kids have to be prepared to hear the word “no”. I don’t see a problem with street vendors and kids have to learn sales resistance early in life.

Turnstiles aren’t practical, but roving security checks and security checkpoints at bottleneck areas/corners are a great idea! Not just for alcohol (,public drinking is illegal for everybody), not just for drugs, but for knives, guns. These are public streets. Its mamash a miracle the Sonei Yisroel have not yet exploited this glaring security breach. Organized supervised speed dating or shidduch events in local venues happening simultaneously to dancing could use that energy into real marriages. Not having Nightly planned farbys (of course, separate genders) is a wasted opportunity since so many exceptional teachers/personalities are visiting CH Tishrei time.

The Frierdiker Rebbe said that tish’a b’av in yerushalayim (when he was there in 1929) was like yud-tes kislev in lubavitch. This was not meant positively. It was also referring to intermingling of boys and girls. The Rebbe Rashab also commented on how boys and girls would take “shabbos walks” together in lubavitch. There were porches built in the beis hamikdosh for this reason. The fasts of baha”b after yomim tovim (although lubavitch doesn’t generally do them) were instituted for this reason. No bleachers should be allowed to be built up using milk crates and the like on the women’s side. It blocks all the women who are not on one of these crates or standing in front of the crates from seeing any of the dancing in those areas as the buildup of these crates essentially create a wall, completely blocking the view of everyone behind it. This was not present years ago, allowing everyone the chance to see and enjoy.
They are also dangerous.

That’s why I go to simchas bais at 4am till 6 it is the best time you feel the kedushà and you don’t have all the the crazy out there b/c they have gone to sleep .
If you want that experience go to sleep get up early morning and go to simchas bais you will feel like a mench and you will enjoy it more
Try it for your self .

What do you really care about?
August 20, 2025 7:09 am

It seems the authors real issue here isn’t safety at all, but more about the whole boys and girls situation. If that’s what this is all about, then let kids be kids and stop being such a “kedusha” Karen.

It seems his issue is the rampant drug use and fights.

Last succos I had to step in where a group of teenagers were trying to steal a bachur’s electric scooter to go to 770.

it need to go back to old location

The crates on the woman's side
August 20, 2025 8:04 am

Getting rid of the crates on the women’s side would be the first step necessary to remove the hefker, “do whatever I want” attitude. It is dangerous and blocks all the women who are not on them from seeing. Everything starts with the women’s influence al pi Chassidus anyhow.
As for safety and seder, professional security has to be hired. Its expensive but there is money for everything else these days .
As for the vendors, I don’t see what is wrong with them, it gets children excited to go and makes a fun atmosphere.

Chassidim!
August 20, 2025 8:16 am

whats wrong with canceling the official program and instead the chassidim can dance in the street outside 770! thats what is was in the early days! stop all the wild and pritzus

We need to take care of this issue l. Venders should be limited and perhaps “purchase “ a space. (If they had some hashgacha that would be great). But Kingston looks like an absolute pig sty, its revolting and inappropriate for such a holy place at such a holy time.

The real issue is the fact that there’s too many vendors and nobody is watching it the organizers of the event should get together with a select amount of vendors and arrange that all food is kosher and they’re the only one selling and everything is affordable and clean like one or two dollars Max

Take a lesson from the original Beis Hashoeivah
August 20, 2025 9:30 am

In the original Simchas Beis Hashoeiva in the Beis Hamikdash they had these problems too, and they built special balconies for the Ezras Noshim. that was after various other soloutions were tried (see Sukkah Daf nun). Organizors and Rabbonim should work things out.

Bamboo!!!

They had layers of bamboo separating the Ezras Nashim from the men…if somebody decided to check out the women the bamboo sticks would make it obvious from all the noise and the culprit would be caught!!

Get the community council guys on board?
Preempt with some clear boundaries?
Will need shmira & on womens side.
Rotating front row so everyone gets opportunity to see. We can use our brains AND compassion to help figure out a helpful plan.

So everyone can see. Brilliant! But we need 2 volunteers to make this a practical reality, and an audience who agree to this new system.

Separate female program
August 20, 2025 12:37 pm

Maybe make a separate, publicized program for women. If they want to view the men’s program, set up video screens showing the men’s program. Have transportation for women and girls to the woman’s program and good food too.

Not the same energy

As good of an idea as it sounds, I don’t think you would be able to feel the energy and simcha at the same levels that you would in person at the actual event

Achdus
August 20, 2025 12:47 pm

Sukkos and simcha Beis hoshoeva are about achdus.
Maybe trying to increase in achdus the year round can maybe help.

Preventative Medicine
August 20, 2025 1:07 pm

Let us all take heed. The situations that are happening during Simchos Bais Hashoeva are partially reflective of “normal” teen behavior behavior however much it may it may not be appropriate. But much more than that, it reflects a system that doesn’t cater efficiently to many of our children. Many of these teens are struggling in schools as well not just struggling ‘on the streets’, or may not even be in school. The community, parents, schools and Yeshivos do amazing things and work very hard, but we all should take a step back (including the youth themselves) and ask ourselves… Read more »

The organizers
August 20, 2025 1:16 pm

I love how everyone thinks the organizers don’t care about the above mentioned problem about the pritzus but as a personal witness of the work that they put into this there is absolutely no way they can be blamed for what’s happening they are doing the best that they can

The people to blame is the parents for not educating their kids in a proper way

A HUGE YASHAR KOACH TO THE ORGANIZERS!!!!

Vendors
August 20, 2025 1:22 pm

And vendors should be far from consideration of being by the SBH event it adds nothing to the simcha of simchas beis hoshoeva and let’s remind ourselves that the rebbe was the one who started this initiative and the ration of the rebbe should be respected to its fullest and hats off to the organizers for doing so in their fullest capacity and the vendors should follow through as well And again a huge Thank You to the organizers for all the hard work they put into to make sure that the rebbes ratzon is being fulfilled and making sure… Read more »

Move all next to 770, do Tishrej Walking Zone
August 20, 2025 2:01 pm

“A simcha is always a bit of a balagan, but it’s also what unites people from so many different backgrounds. Maybe it’s time to think bigger — close off the entire Tishrei Zone and bring the music to Eastern Parkway, just like at the Lag B’Omer parade. We simply don’t fit into just two small blocks of Kingston Avenue anymore. And if the city could close Kingston for construction all summer long, then surely nothing will happen if it remains closed a little longer for our simcha.

I agree about crowd control

Location
August 20, 2025 3:36 pm

The stage area is mainly contained however all the “hangouts” occur near Chocolatte, in random alleys, lefferts park etc with many boys inviting girls to their basements or apartments afterwards.

A solution that worked in the past
August 20, 2025 5:51 pm

Years ago, I believe in the late 90’s or Early 00’s, there was a then new Vaad Hakahal who decided that enough is enough, they demanded that the organizers make some changes, and when that didn’t work they took over the event. One thing they implemented was no vending. None. Zero. After a few nights the streets were clean, the ones coming to dance from other neighborhoods found a beautiful simchas beis hashoeiva. The ones coming for the hang out found nothing to buy, no food, no beverages, nothing. After a few nights they stopped coming. Disclaimer: I was a… Read more »

What can we do
August 20, 2025 6:09 pm

We draw down a higher form of kedusha when making boundaries between men and women. It is an opportunity to have a higher form of kedusha in the world. The Ohr HaChaim said that guarding our eyes, being careful in kashrus and tapping into our neshama by feeding it the food it needs can help uphold boundaries. (( heard on mikvah.org/powerhour by Mrs. Morozow) If we work on ourselves to have this higher form of kedusha by putting boundaries in our everyday life then perhaps this higher form of kedusha will have an effect on others. The Baal Shem Tov… Read more »

Health and safety too!
August 20, 2025 7:56 pm

These issues are not just a lack of frumkiet and against Halacha
It’s also simply unhealthy and unsafe
We also know that when there a lot of kedusha there’s also klipa
We need to focus and teach everyone around us to focus on the kedusha!
Its time for everyone who is capable to take responsibility for the teenagers and for each other
Arrange programs
Arrange farbies
Let’s get teenagers busy with good things from 11-3 and then they should go watch the beautiful dancing from 3-6
We’re missing more devoted mechanchos leaders teachers etc

There definitely needs to be more organization. You would think a woman should be/feel safe on the side designated for women. I was groped by a man from behind while standing in middle of the women’s side. Why are men allowed in??

Indeed, they shouldn’t be. I’m wondering if the police would consider posting female officers in the women’s section to keep the men out. Would the men/ teenage boys listen to them when told to leave?

Organizers: Redirect energy, be smart
August 20, 2025 9:59 pm

See a way that you can create teenage enviroment that’s safe Few examples, for starters: Bring lights (literal lights) kingston from carroll until union or ep, if it’s dark, you sort of invite unfortunate things 2 Think of some sort of activity that will engage these type of teens. Bring the expert advice from Cteens or people that know how to engage this type of younglers that is mentioned here 3 there are teens from other communities that come for that? Great! Not a bad thing at all. Who know what a good moment of kedusha can make, and they… Read more »

A solution!
August 21, 2025 4:23 pm

The only way to control “outsiders” is to set up “check points” (like in Israel at border crossings to various territories). All outside groups entering the neighborhood should need to pass these . A suspicious group of youths can be “talked to” about the community standards of behvior, observed if they seem intoxicated or looking for trouble and if so, escorted by Shomrim to “babysit” the them. Outsider youths usually enter as a group. They usually come by foot, park a distance away. A perimeter can be easily set up a couple of blocks away in all 4 directions, requiring… Read more »
