After making rounds in numerous frum communities in the New York area, the historic Unity Torah, set to be completed on Sunday, made its final stop where it all began – in the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn.
In the past two weeks, the Torah has visited many different communities, and prominent and respected Rabbonim and community leaders have joined in inscribing letters in the Torah.
The writing of the Torah is being called a “historic endeavor” by many for the unprecedented unity it has brought to Klal Yisroel across the globe by uniting hundreds of thousands who have purchased letters.
Letters have been inscribed by both Rebbes of Satmar – R’ Aron of Monroe and R’ Zalman Leib of Williamsburg, the Rebbe of Bobov 45 and Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Rav of Agudas Yisroel.
At an event on Wednesday evening, the Crown Heights Rabbonim, Rosh Yeshivos and community leaders joined to inscribe letters in the Torah together with Sofer Rabbi Moshe Klein, praising the endeavor and noting the great achdus it has brought among Jews of all types.
Rabbi Yosef Braun, member of the Bais Din of Crown Heights, said that the Unity Torah brings to mind the explanation on the Parsha when Moshe Rabbeinu wrote the chapter on his own passing, that “he wrote it with tears.”
“This Sefer Torah was also written with tears,” Rabbi Braun said. “The entire Klal Yisroel put their tears into this Torah,” which was begun during the height of the pandemic, as a way to bring healing to Klal Yisroel.
“40 years ago, the Rebbe spoke about making a Sefer Torah for Klal Yisroel,” Rabbi Braun said. “All the gedolei Yisroel came out to support this idea in Eretz Yisroel, in America, and all over. Today we see how the whole entire Klal Yisroel has united around this Sefer Torah, and with this Sefer Torah we will go to be Mekabel Pnei Moshiach Tzidkeinu, and the tears of Klal Yisroel will become tears of joy,” he said.
In attendance were the members of the Crown Heights Beis Din, Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun. Also in attendance were Dayan Rabbi Shlomo Segal, Crown Heights Kolel L’horaah Ma’asis Rosh Kolel Rabbi Sholom Ber Shuchat and Sgan Rosh Kolel Rabbi Shraga Homnick, as well as heads of many Crown Heights schools and Mosdos.
The event was organized by Rabbi Lazer Avtzon of the Association of Crown Heights Shuls and Rabbi Mendy Blau, the newly named Menahel Roshi of Oholei Torah School.
A grand celebration will take place on December 6 to celebrate the completion of the Torah, to be streamed live across the globe.
The exciting event will feature the Torah completion ceremony and a live concert featuring an all star lineup of singers, including Avraham Fried, Mordechai Ben David, Chaim Yisrael, Eli Marcus, Baruch Levine, 8th Day band, Lipa Schmeltzer, Shmuli Ungar, Shlomo Simcha and Mendy J.
