The writings of the Rebbeim, going back to the Alter Rebbe and the Baal Shem Tov, are replete with references to the power of Tehillim. A kapitel Tehillim recited with a broken heart can storm the heavens, they said.
This is succinctly expressly in the well-known Hayom Yom of 24 Shevat: “If you only knew – The Tzemach Tzedek said – the power of verses of Tehillim and their effect in the highest Heavens, you would recite them constantly.”
The Frierdiker Rebbe encouraged the minhag of reciting the daily Tehillim after davening every day and urged that it be said together with the minyan. In many letters, the Rebbe would remind people of its importance as part of the daily chitas.
This minhag was not just intended for Lubavitch shuls, but for all Jewish communities, as today’s Hayom Yom clearly states. However, although it has become standard in every Lubavitch shul, it is still yet to be adopted by many communities in the broader Jewish world.
With this in mind, Shneur Minsky, Crown Heights businessman and entrepreneur, has launched a creative initiative to make this special minhag accessible to everyone.
The product works as follows: The kapitlach for each day of the month are printed on laminated cards that are clearly numbered and easy to sort. They are placed in order inside of an elegant, clear plastic storage container. The cards for that day of the month are placed in a compartment at the front of the box. Along the sides are small plaques where a gabbai can write in whose zechus the Tehillim for the day is being said. These plaques are easily erasable and can be changed from one day to another. Pisgamim and references about the importance of saying Tehillim are printed at the back of the box.
Any Shul that wishes to bring this project to their community will receive it free of charge. Simply email [email protected] to start the process.
“We need to make sure that this project reaches all communities, especially those outside of Lubavitch,” said Minsky. “May the zechus of so many yidden reciting Tehillim be the final push to bring about the ultimate guelah with Moshiach Tzidkeinu.”
Besides the idea of obviously saying Tehillim Yomi, there is also a very big Inyan to give Tzedakah whilst saying Tehillim. I’m glad to see that Shneur Minsky combined the two!!
