Question

How does the fact that Crown Heights is a very highly visited neighborhood impact the herd immunity. If people from other cities, countries, will be visiting when opened will that change the dynamic?

Presumably, yes, which is why CH being a “global village” has unique challenges.

Why is this survey not a random sample?

A self-selected sample has unknown effects on whether you are overestimating or underestimating, so it’s unclear what these results mean about the actual incidence.

Overweight also a major risk factor
May 12, 2020 10:25 am

It is the most important risk factor for covid19 complications after old age so if anyone has this condition it is important to be extra careful

It was for that reason that they conducted a random phone survey of the older demographic several weeks back. To some degree it also is controlled for by stratifying by age in the graph.

Vitamin D

People who are indoors must make sure to get adequate vitamin D, as well as other nutrients. Also, exercise is important, especially for osteoporosis.

Heat, humidity vs carona
May 12, 2020 3:41 pm

There has been lots of talk about the massively
disproportionate number of deaths (over 5,000) in NY nursing
homes compared to only a few hundred in Florida.

Could the climate be a factor in its slow-down, though not eradication?

Why is CH behind?
May 13, 2020 4:31 pm

The shuls in BP and Williamsburg have been open a week already, WITH the permission of the NYC and NYS authorities and following proper guidelines. Why is CH not following their lead? Are the Askanim not aware of this?

Why are they open?
We are very proud to be strict with Pikuach Nefesh. No question on us.

Very well thought out response. Are there no Rabbonim in BP and WB qualified to decide on issues of Pikuach Nefesh, ONLY in CH? And did we suddenly now discover those Simanim in Shulchan Aruch, when in the days before and after Purim the issue was downplayed, up until the parade of Levayas began, THEN we suddenly became STRICT with Pikuach Nefesh? 300,000 people die a year in the US due to obesity (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc.). Perhaps we should ban Cholent and Potato Kugel and save MANY many more lives, then continuing to curtail those not at high… Read more »

It pays to do a little research into the vaccines,
May 22, 2020 1:59 pm

Corona relates to any flu. These mutat and change many times.
So good luck with the vaccines. Better to have nutrition and supplements’like zinc, vit D, vit C and elderberry (and vitamins for
T cells). Bill Gates, the philanthropist is working hard on vaccies.
(Too bad he apparently has in mind “additives” and “technolog”y\ tatoos and stuff to put in.)
