Over the past week there have been upwards of 100 cases of COVID in our community. Thankfully, over the past few days we have not witnessed the exponential increase we had feared, which is very reassuring; hopefully this will not only continue to be the case, but IYH we will see a downtrend. However, there are still many cases daily across all age groups, with many in the group of most concern. Predominantly the virus is spreading among those who had not previously had COVID.
Therefore, given the continued presence of COVID in our community, we must strongly urge those above the age 50 who have not previously been ill with COVID to continue to take caution. For the time being, and certainly over this Shabbos and into next week, those in this group are urged to avoid shuls, simchas, or other crowded areas, and to be cautious about socializing with family or friends who may spread the virus. Of particular concern is children who are constantly mixing with others at school, and who then go to visit their vulnerable grandparents who of course desire to spend time or a meal with those whom they love.
For the general community, if someone is ill with COVID they should stay home and isolate until ten days have passed, and they are symptom free for at least a day. Those who have been in close contact with a person with COVID should quarantine for a minimum of 10 days. (Alternatively, one may discontinue quarantine on day 7 if a negative test is obtained on day 5-7 of quarantine.)
Isolation of those who are ill, and quarantining those who have been closely exposed, is perhaps the single most important thing we can do to slow down the spread of COVID. In addition, masks and social distancing are effective tools in reducing the spread of COVID and should be utilized.
IYH next week we will have further information as to where things stand. For now, we beg people not to congregate in big crowds, at least for the short term, given the continued prevalence of cases.
Wishing those that are currently ill a complete and speedy refuah shleimah, and IYH we should only have good news to share.
Good Shabbos!
– The Gedaliah Society, in conjunction with Dr. Rosen

I hope people will listen so we do not G-d forbid lose even one precious person.

Please if you got are positive stay home!
Before we hear from the naysayers (why even?) The following should be noted: The virus is all over the world. In places where masks are common, the infection rate is much, much lower than where it is not. I don’t know anyone who died from wearing a mask, or the attendant foggy glasses, but I know many who died from Covid, including my father. It was in the early days of the virus, before masks were mandated. If only we knew then what we know now. Stay safe and please do everything in your power to stop the spread of… Read more »
I wrote this comment, and I’ll add the following. Masks are important even if you have antibodies. We don’t know about new strains, but also, it creates a spirit of safety which save lives. When people see others in masks, they are more likely to wear one. In communities it is unacceptable to NOT wear a mask, everyone does, and fewer people get sick and die.
It is simply not true that your father died because people were not wearing masks. Masks are proven to NOT make any difference in the virus spread and neither are asymptomatic people who test positive proven to be contagious and able to spread covid. You can believe whatever you wish but please realize it’s a believe that has been disproven by multiple studies and is far from established science unless you consider politicians and medical beaurocrats as trustworthy people after they have been compromised and proven to be profitting and lying to the public.
What you are doing is called “confirmation bias” by psychologists. You want to believe something so you state it as fact, spouting false, biased studies. Masks reduce spread. Not 100% eradication, but they help A LOT. 15% to 95% of the time. And you’re right that I can’t say for sure if masks would have helped my father. But there’s a really good chance they might have. What is “simply wrong” is your insensitive, ignorant, and boastful comment.
That’s been disproven.
See:
https://aapsonline.org/mask-facts/?fbclid=IwAR25_h2smQ-8WNrcLcfaaVKQCYYBbN3qyG8Zddir1XEipiD9LpAtUpAZFh8
And one more thing. Almost no one profits financially from the wearing of masks. Unlike w pharmaceuticals, there is zero monetary motivation or bribery for politicians to promote masks.
When I stop seeing photos from Crown Heights and other places of people without masks then I will know it is being taken seriously and my fellows Jews care about their fellow Jews. Protect yourselves! Please Hashem gave us the power to care for ourselves.
The real virus is communism. Covid-19 is just how it spreads.
I think a good idea is for the time being (next few weeks) for the inyon & sake of Pikuach Nefesh & Sakonos Nefashos, that all Lubavitchers from England that have plans to come to CH should please postpone those trips if they can, Due to the New Covid Strain coming from the UK. Yes the Mainstream Media may have hyped the details about the New Strain (70% more contagious) but the fact is it really does seem like that England new corona strain is spreading much quicker. Sadly we are starting to see dozens of (Tested & Reported, just… Read more »
The new strain of corona has been found in south america and israel as well. It is strongly suspected of being in USA already
Stop the panic! It shows an utter lack of Emunas Hashem. We are ok. We are in good Hands. Most people recover fully from covid. And there is effective early treatment for the vulnerable, please take them!
There are Friday night block oneg Shabbos groups that are held in dining rooms, with munching goin g on with no masks, a lot of women sitting close to each other around a table, and many of these participants are in the age of being very vulnerable. For the sake of health of our community, pleae discontinue these groups – surely Mrs.Edith Block wouldn’t want anyone getting sick because of her initiative in this!
A guten Shabbos.
The men are guilty as well. When they fabreng no one wears a mask!
They should still meet for learning torah but wear masks and not be served food
I understand that you think you are saving lives by shaming people but please realize that you are causing more harm than help. It is not up to you what people do and you are not able to control anyone else besides yourself and your loshon horo is out of control. Please mask it and social distance it from everyone’s eyes and ears. Thanks in advance
Appreciate your updates!
We have this. And we will have a full 770 tomorrow.
Yes bh. I’m happy to see how the young and healthy are getting back to normal despite the naysayers. They are not killing people. It’s a big fat lie meant to destroy us more than the virus ever could.
Dr Rosen עמו״ש,,,
For all you do and are,
A gut shabbos
Can you share how many cases of reinfection you are seeing in the community?
Have there been any actual confirmed reinfections?
I’ve heard plenty of cases about a positive rapid test, and then negative on the PCR.
A good amount of reinfections. I have 2 friends who have had it twice
I know of at least one confirmed reinfection in CH.
In her 20s in CH. both times pretty mild but still no fun.
My relative in his late 30’s had it twice. He was sick both times with a fever and cough (relatively mild flu-like symptoms). First time was confirmed afterwards with antibody test. Next time was confirmed by multiple COVID tests (including tests by multiple medical research centers.)
Most Kids have mild symptoms and aren’t going to the dr to be tested and young parents are too scared to say they have covid or also aren’t being testedfor fear of shutting down classes or school. Also people aren’t trusting of the government and medical advise because shady things are done for political gain and lives are being sacrificed, there’s treatment for the virus and many died that could have been saved if they were given the right treatment.the right treatment would save more lives than masks. It makes me so angry those who died and terrified of hospitals… Read more »
It is of utmost importance to do everything to avoid the spread of Covid. Masks, testing, distancing. Regardless of politics.
unfortunately, as we speak a family member is in the hospital due to this virus
no one is safe we don’t know is this a new strain or the same one please, please take these words to heart Hashem should heal all that need a refuah shelayma
Good Shabbos
I don’t need a mask!
Yes, I am over 50, overweight and not in perfect health. But I do not need a mask. I do not need to protect myself or you.
Because I have anti-bodies! In fact, many in CH have them after having a bout of the virus.
So don’t preach to me, don’t judge me and leave me alone!
Because it creates a spirit of safety which save lives. When people see others in masks, they are more likely to wear one. In communities it is unacceptable to NOT wear a mask, everyone does, and fewer people get sick and die.
It means a spirit of fear and distrust in each other. Please consider ditching that unsanitary muzzle. Do you replace it with a new one each time you touch it or remove it or wear it longer than a few hours? Part of basic rules of mask wearing pre-covid….
I constantly change my mask. NOT wearing a mask means others will fear and distrust you. For good reason. The virus is contagious. News flash.
Newsflash yourself. The virus being contagious does not prove the need, nor justify the forced use of masks… Because it’s simply shown to be a deceptive lie. And without any peer reviewed double blind studies to counter the many pre-covid years of established science that have always shown how useless a mask is for a virus
Plain and simple. You think you’re a hero for fighting masks. Sad.
I’m not fighting masks. I’m fighting the FORCED use of masks. You think it works and is needed for healthy people? Then go ahead and wear them. I really don’t. I should have the option not to. Enough of the I must wear a mask when not sick to protect you quackiness. It’s a lie.
It’s not about judging, it”s about doing what we can to save suffering and lives..and,yes, there is the element of Chillul Hashem in not wearing one in public, since those around us are wearing masks. Also.. do we know how long antibodies last, etc. Please, let’s not add stress to an already stressful situation.
May you and all Klal Yisrael have a Good Shabbos, and may we enjoy Simchas!!
No coronavirus has permanent antibodies. (The common cold, for example, is one type of coronavirus, Covid-19 is just a new type of coronavirus). We don’t know how long antibodies or immunity lasts–there have been definite cases of reinfection all over the world, although it is still unusual proven cases are happening in every community.Sorry, those are the facts It appears to be a common mistake that people think they have had it once so they are clear and cannot spread it to other people. Please ask the Gedalia Society for the details. The CDC and New York State are telling… Read more »
For possibly being harmful to others! You’re not worried about yourself fine, but have some respect for the people around you.
I agree with you. Some people think they are G-d and can control this virus. Do your part in washing hands and staying home when sick but otherwise I will be glad to see your smile! Ignore the panic people. You are not killing anyone. It’s absurd
Yes the virus can be life threatening in some cases Yes we are minimising big gatherings But no we cannot turn the world upside down and force rules that are disruptive and depressing for a virus that might actually be as dangerous as the flu It seems the corona virus has mutated and just like there are endless cold viruses there can be numerous corona viruses and none of these precautions or vaccines will actually help The number of virus germs spreading now is less intense so therefore less dangerous Relax and live life and respect those who are ready… Read more »
You clearly didn’t lose a close family member to the virus. “Relax”. So disrespectful. And so ignorant of the facts too. This is way more dangerous than the flu. How many people do you know that died of the flu? And how many from Covid? Where I live, everyone goes about life, but in masks, with fewer and much smaller gatherings. My kids wear masks all day in school. Uncomfortable but they’ll be fine. They wear masks to “play dates”. We all wear masks the whole time in shul. And very very few people here got Covid. With very little… Read more »
Correlation is not causation. Very likely that you would still get the same result without suffocating your kids and subjecting them to that kind of child abuse. So unnecessary
My kid wears a mask all day in school and on play dates. She is annoyed but will be okay and is proud that she is protecting her parents and the vulnerable. Tremendous chinuch opportunity. She sees people without masks and is horrified that they don’t seem to care about others.
Does she wear an effective mask against covid? Did you test her oxygen saturation with an oxymeter? If the weave is so fine that it let’s in sufficient air it is also letting in (and out) the virus, if she even has one. Ever thought of that? It’s the ultimate stupidity. Along with believing that somehow a mask won’t stop a virus from coming in but will stop it from going out. Does it have a special one way valve or smthg? And how about the unique belief that you are somehow able to kill someone with a virus that… Read more »
In addition, how about the 6 foot rule of social distancing? If someone smokes a cigarette 6ft away, do you smell it? Yes it reaches you, and what if you’re standing 6 ft behind them in a moving line. Won’t you end up in their cloud of second hand smoke as soon as you reach their old place in line? Why is this virus any different? And then consider all the super covid avoidance focused people running to stand in line for an extended period of time with other sick (likely infected w covid) people at the hint of a… Read more »
But they have been repeatedly shown to be effective in fighting the virus. Like it or not. There are better ways to prevent the spread , and social distancing is one of the best! Also contact tracing.
They stand in line to get tested in order to find out if they need to stay home… Well then STAY HOME to begin with. What are you doing out and about, endangering people’s lives with this super deadly contagion that you suspect you have? I guess you really don’t think it’s that deadly after all, right? I would never be waiting in line exposing others if I thought I had polio or Ebola?
School and shul must go on, shiurim must go on.
Let’s not repeat the mistakes we made in March, keep everything open.
It is a worthy cause to die for.
If you are at risk or your loved ones are, do not worry, they will not die in vain.
Will all learn mishanoys for them.
How such words can come out of a Jew’s mouth is beyond me. Not asking to shut down supermarkets (which studies claim are the main spreader), not asking to shut down fressing places which abound in crown heights. But asking to shut down shuls and schools!
Hello communist Russia, where only Shuls, schools and Mikvahs were shuttered.
Took a minute there. Sarcasm aside, Where I live, there are shiurim and shul but very few social gatherings. Kids wear masks in school and with others. All wear masks in shul. And no one in our community died from Covid. Very few ever had it. There is a way to keep things open and keep people safe.
Sorry no one needs to die from covid anymore! According to Dr Armstrong he saved thousands of elderly ill nursing home patients lives. He gave them hydroxychloriquine and zinc as prevention and they were all fine when exposed or contracted the virus. Check out Dr Simone Gold’s website and contact him for more info. https://www.americasfrontlinedoctors.com/speakers/
Thank you for making this world a safer place for everyone.
Fraud alert! You have been deceived. Your mask will do squat except keep your ego soaring. According to Dr. fauci on his first interview.
Take the vaccine
We are still in a deadly pandemic
What’s not understood
Hydroxy zinc vitamin c is a must
Vitamine d super important. Check dr. Urso’s Twitter for data.
No masks, no entry to stores
Yeshivos shuls must mandate masks as they are super spreaders
