The gathering began traditionally, with fathers learning with their sons and learning any topic they desired. The boys received raffle tickets for learning diligently with their fathers.
Focusing on our sons, spending positive time together and learning Torah, scattered with a hefty dose of quiet and engaged listening, helps develop nurturing and meaningful relationships and support our sons form attitudes that will allow them to grow into Chassidim in the richest sense of that term.
A special thank you was given to Mendy Dalfin for organizing Avos U’Banim for 5780. The program came to an end with a raffle of the learning tickets the students earned.
Coral Springs needs to be getting more attention. Seems to be a growing community doing things the right way.
I am a member of the Coral Springs community, & amazed to see the growth of this program from year to year.
Is there a reason we’re still intent on calling it ‘Fathers and Sons’ – dismissing any child without a father? Can’t we be a bit creative – how about Intergenerational Learning, or Dor l’Dor Learning….? Yes, I know, a fatherless son can bring any male adult…but if just a simple change of words can keep just one little boy from feeling left out, should it not be done?
Some communities call their program kol hanerarim or Dor L’Dor like you suggested. Avos Ubanim is the parent organization and thus the local branches are called avos ubanim.
This is a very good point. I participate in this program and I’ve witnessed kids from divorced parents or kids who father is unable to take them being accounted for. They are always encouraged to come and another family takes them under their wing.
Wow Rabbi Pesach Klein does it again!
Unfortunately, Pesach Klein is in the process of moving to Miami so this year Mendy Dalfin took the program over. But we certainly have to give Pesach Klein a ton for credit for building this program from the ground up and being very supportive in having someone else take the reins.
