The Telegram messaging app marked a sudden spike in downloads after larger rival WhatsApp announced it will allow Facebook Inc and its subsidiaries to collect user data, including their phone number and location.
Telegram picked up nearly 2.2 million downloads, according to data analytics firm Sensor Tower, and 100,000 users installed a similar app Signal.
In response to growing requests, COLlive.com, the leading Chabad community news service based out of Brooklyn’s Crown Heights, opened an account on Telegram Messenger where it will be posting important news alerts and stories of the day.
The new service will be run by COLlive’s social media team who manage the popular social media pages:

Does anyone know when the new policy is starting? Its so annoying having to change and start anew but if we are known on facebook what’s the difference if its on whats app also?
There is so much to keep up with now a days and if I don’t have to change would rather not.

Go on the app store now and give whatsapp a 1 star, let them know you are angry and why you are switching because of the privacy update
Look into Telegram before downloading, not a secure platform
Telegram is very open and can expose one to lots of negative tumah and klipa please do research before just jumping into telegram

Russians are good with internet stuff so we should be in splendid shape with our communications.
My point is don’t rely on any one service–they get bought and sold and change regularly.
Telegram is not secure. Whatsapp is. Look before you leap.

Many Crown Heights families are wary of Telegram b/c it is too easy to be directed to inappropriate contacts on Telegram.
So would you please also use Signal — which does not have the same problem as Telegram?
