Anyone who chanced upon the corner of Kingston Avenue and President Street on Thursday afternoon was treated to a scene ushering Purim joy into our neighborhood.
Two bedecked clowns, courtesy of Oholei Torah as a promotion for their fundraising campaign, one on stilts and one blowing ballons were joyously entertaining all passersby, particularly the small children who each gleefully received a colorful balloon.
But another surprise awaited the crowd. “Moshe” happened to be one of the clowns, and once identified, was asked to put on Tefillin. He complained that he was working (blowing up the balloons) and could not stop his job even for a minute.
Needless to say, the crowd was asked if they would afford him the time to put on Tefillin, and they enthusiastically agreed to this and Moshe put on Tefillin with the crowd helping him say the brochos!
