After a successful inaugural summer, CKids Gan Israel, Wisconsin, is launching its second summer season with a brand new location at the beautiful Camp Lakotah grounds. The overnight camp is geared towards children who attend Hebrew school throughout the year, bringing the Hebrew school experience to life in an immersive and fun environment.
The program will be held at the beautiful Camp Lakotah grounds in Wautoma, Wisconsin, to accommodate the camp’s tremendous growth. The spacious and picturesque grounds will provide campers with a wide variety of activities, including archery, swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and nature hikes along miles of trails.
Rabbi Avremi Schapiro, who directs the camp along with his wife Shaindy, highlights the personalized attention every camper receives. “CKids Gan Israel Wisconsin is a special overnight camp experience, providing each camper with the opportunity to have fun, make friends, and develop their Jewish identity in a supportive, caring, and safe environment,” he said.
With 17 years of experience directing Gan Israel Day Camps, the Schapiro’s will once again bring a powerful combination of professionalism and passion for Jewish education to the overnight camp. “We have seen the positive impact that our program has had on the children who have attended in the past, and we look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of Jewish children this summer,” said Shaindy.
As part of the CKids Gan Israel Network, the camp is designed for children who attend Hebrew school throughout the year, and it aims to keep that Hebrew school experience alive. The camp incorporates Alef Champ, an engaging Hebrew reading program, into the curriculum to further that vision.
“Summer camp provides a unique opportunity for children to connect with their Jewish identity, nurture their sense of community, and deepen their love for Yiddishkeit, all while having a good time,” said Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, “Especially in this day and age the younger generation must receive the knowledge, clarity, and connection with their heritage that only the summer experience can give.”
The camp is accredited and offers excellent scholarship options, including special funding for kids in public school. There is also a CIT program in camp for kids coming out of 8 and 9 grades.
One of the most powerful features of the camp is the capped enrollment. The goal is to provide personalized attention to each camper, fostering their self-esteem and confidence through the program and activities offered.
Tamara C., a camper from the first girls’ overnight camp in Wisconsin, recalls her experience, “I was pretty nervous about being away from home for eleven days with a bunch of girls I didn’t know. But when I arrived at the camp, I was struck by how friendly everyone was. I was able to be completely myself.”
