In a milestone moment for the neighborhood, the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC) has officially announced that it will be moving its storefront social service center from the location at 387 that has been its home for 50 years to a new Kingston Avenue site two blocks away on the corner of Lefferts Avenue. The lease has been signed. Painting is underway, and the new location is slated to open next month.
The new location is larger, brighter, and a more welcoming space, where all employees of the Council will be able to be housed in one place. The brand-new facility has been designed with increased accessibility and expanded services in mind.
“We are really excited about this move — marking a significant upgrade in our capacity to serve the community. We look forward to being able to better to have clients seen in this bigger and nicer location,” said Shmuel Rosenstein, Vice Chairman of the CHJCC, reflecting the enthusiasm shared by both leadership and residents.
The Community Council offers all services free of charge, assisting residents with SNAP, SCRIE, Medicaid, HEAP, and other benefits, as well as Crime Victim Services, Housing, Crisis Intervention, Green Card and Citizenship applications, and Weatherization Assistance.
To make an appointment for service, call 718-771-9000 Monday to Thursday 9 to 5 and Friday until noon.

What Mr. Benabou planning to do with the rest of the strip?May I kindly make a suggestion? I apreciate that at least if things are being sold it is better to some one who will do something for the community than outside developers. However please MAINTAIN the properties that you buy. Gombos is left as a disgusting wreck so is Empire Grill. Lets have a little respect for the neighborhood. Clean up inside or cover with paper. We bring many outside visitors how can we show them that these empty places look like they have been ransacked by thieves?
They bid against a Lubavitcher that wanted to reopen the urgent care
We can really use a frum urgent care it was so convenient and necessary especially for the outside visitors
Us locals are in desperate need of an urgent care as well.
Helping with passports.
Actual housing
Hopefully now we won’t have to go to BP or Williamsburg to get the help we need
keep hoping. same ppl running it…
what happened to the urgent care?
why is another one not opened up there if for whatever reason the other closed?
wishing much luck to the previous owner
Would be nice if the community council would let everybody know what they do.
Since the new board was elected, they had one community meeting, and then we never heard from them again.
Community councils social media accounts are inactiv.
Whenever you need something and you call them, they ask you to come in and make you sit there for a long time make you sign in and then tell you sorry we can’t help you.
I called this year and asked about pesach vouchers which never doesnt even come from their pocket but from met council. They told me I can fill out the application online. I called many times to ask for it until they said oh sorry the deadline passed and it was only able to be filled out in person and the lady who does it is there from 10-3! I was so disappointed and hurt. That they can treat someone like this. We work. We can’t come between 10-3 especially when you give people a one day deadline or in this… Read more »
Can someone please tell us exactly what the Crown Hights Jewish community Council???? does every time we ask them for something they give us the runaround.
Why can’t they have a fund to help families pay for camp?? If they are actually here to help the community, let’s start with helping the kids.
If you want the CHJCC to do something, they should get a salary.
Its not fair to expect guys to maintain their own jobs, and then work another full time job on top of that.
If they were able to just work at it as a full time job, they could get alot more done. My two cents.
There is a budget allotted from the city. Look it up. I’m sure they’re taking some for salary. Trust my all those ladies working there aren’t sitting there for free. Also the netsigim chose the position and asked for votes. It wasn’t forced upon them and we appreciate them stepping up. But yeah
The chjcc staff works and gets paid. The board members advise and pitch in when they can and do not get paid. There are important community events and they are attending.
They ran for that office. Nobody forced them to do so. If they cannot fulfill their obligation, then they ought to resign.
Per their late tax return they have revenue more then 3,5million dollars per year, with salaries more then 1,7 million dollars and other expenses are 1,5 million dollars as well…. Per public open information.
how many workers are there? what kind of help and community needs they serve?
