Eight Nights. Eight Leaders. One Community.
Each night of Chanukah, we honor a leader whose dedication helped shape the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and strengthened the lives of countless families. Their light continues to guide our mission — to serve, protect, and uplift our community with dignity and care.
And now, on this last night of Chanukah, we turn to a figure whose presence at the forefront of Crown Heights spanned decades.
Honoring Rabbi Chanina Sperlin
Tonight, we honor Rabbi Chanina Sperlin, a former member of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, a leader who stood at the front lines of our neighborhood for decades.
Rabbi Sperlin serves as the community’s tireless governmental liaison, working tirelessly to protect Crown Heights. He is the one who met with officials, addressed crises, and ensured our community always had a strong, respected voice.
He became the face of the community, representing Crown Heights with strength, dignity, and unwavering devotion. His home became a hub for unity, where officials, community leaders, and neighbors gathered to discuss challenges, celebrate holidays, and build the relationships that sustained our community.
His lifelong efforts built bridges, secured essential services, and helped shape the stability our neighborhood relies on today.
On this final night of Chanukah, we honor his dedication and the light he brought into countless lives.

Rabbi Sperlin is Boruch Hashem alive and well.
No need to talk about his accomplishments in the past.
He is a perfect symbol of Chanukah, constantly adding and growing our community.
Reb Chanina’s ONGOING contribution to the community spans much more than just a title or a tribute!
He is the NESHAMA of the present board, creating connections and hosting events for them to be able to do their job.
He should be honored for what he WILL bring to the community.
We cannot exist without him!!
