Teachers and principals from across North America headed to Piscataway, NJ, Tuesday, for the annual conference hosted by Chabad’s Educational Office – Merkos Chinuch.
Now in its eighth year, the Men’s Summer Chinuch Conference attracted educators from Chabad institutions throughout the US.
“The Kinusim moved away from simply presenting fresh and exciting ideas, to fully developing a dominant theme from concept to practice,” said Education Office Director Rabbi Nochum Kaplan. “If past Kinusim presented a smorgasbord of educational ideas, then this year we are presenting a full course meal, from soup to nuts.”
The conference included lectures and workshops by leading educators from around the US including Rabbi Dr. Dovid Jacobson, of Yeshiva Educational Services – Los Angeles, Rabbi Dr. Dov Leibenstein, of Associated Talmud Torahs – Chicago, Rabbi Yoseph Y. Rosenblum, Principal, Yeshiva Schools – Pittsburgh, Rabbi Meir Fachler, Director Gemorah Brurah Foundation and Rabbi Menachem Greenbaum, Cheder Menachem Los Angeles.
“The presentations are on a high professional level. The schedule is tight. The topics are current,” said Rabbi Kaplan. “I expect everyone will find a multitude of new attitudes and ideas to take home with them.”
Ok so maybe your kid doesn’t get the best education, but as a graduate of a pretty decent school, I can honestly say that most of what I learned, I learned at home. More important than being a straight A student in gemorah, is being a straight A student in middos, and that is only something you as in a mother or father can teach to your children. Stop criticizing: if you think there is something wrong with the system, work on a way to improve it. Don’t stand on the side and complain.
It’s time to get out of our overalls and spend quality time with our kids. Kids that are payed attention to at home and not just at school have a greater chance of surviving and coming out the way that us parents want them to. Not only do the Mechanchim need to be Dugma chayos but even us parents need to be. We can’t expect our children to grow and prosper in a chassidishe way if we don’t spend time with them and encourage them in that way. We are the role models for our children, they look up to… Read more »

What about any teachers from Lubavitcher Yeshiva? They can all use some new methods and change.
Nice to see some our favorite Rabbis up there.
oy.
teachers are willing to learn, but it’s the blind leading the blind.
no it’s not lack of money, per se, it’s lack of educational standards.
no point in elaborating here, tho. the circus will go on. those that seek real education will leave the fold.

In case you didn’t notice a nice contingency from Pittsburgh were there. Hopefully to shed some education light to the New York Schools.

selling Kehos books?
If all you critics really care then you would realize on your own the number one issue is,if you don’t pay the teacher well they can’t teach well!!!

we need more conventions like this – even educators like in any profession have room to improve
yshar koach to the organizers
there should be bochrim in the picture, they happen to teach in mesivtas. oh thats right they shouldnt be teaching in anywhere. for that matter no untrained person should be teaching
I think that it would be proper fot the kehos representatives to dress similar to the Teachers and principals
Who was the caterer and who was the machshir was this kinus?
I Hope that Some of the key issues are being discussed along with the shortfalls we face in Chabad school system today: 1. A lack of professionally educated or trained staff. 2. The absences of accountably. 3. Weak teacher/administration work relationships. 3. Weak teacher/ parent communication. 4. Lack of classroom structure and or a unilateral discipline system. 5. The reluctance to adopt or accept new teaching method and curriculum. 6. The lack of a competent secular education. These are concerns that obviously, can not be dealt with all at once; however a Mosod who has the desire to become a… Read more »
Yasher Koach!
One would think that with all these fancy conferences that these people attend our kids would actually get a decent education. And a bonus it would be if they actually are able, upon completion of a grueling 12 year, 12 hour a day schedule, to communicate effectively and coherently in ANY language.
Just sayin’
